One of the most versatile players in basketball at Texas Lutheran, Dionne Phelps paced the Bulldogs to 31 victories in his two seasons for Coach Jim Shuler.  He led the team in scoring in the 1987-88 season, tallied 456 points the following year in which TLC was runner-up in the Heart of Texas Conference.  Phelps was also a top free-throw shooter, rebounder, and had high numbers in steals, assists, and blocked shots.  He was an All-HOTC Team selection twice, and was selected to the NAIA All-District IV Team his senior year.  Phelps became Shuler’s assistant for the 1989-93 and 1994-98 seasons, and was an assistant coach at Baylor University for one year before taking an assistant position with Texas State University.
