SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran women's volleyball sophomore middle blocker Briana Salvatierra-Moore (San Antonio/Antonian College Prep) was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 25-31, the conference announced on Tuesday.

It is the first career weekly honor for Salvatierra-Moore and the second straight Defensive Player of the Week honor for TLU dating back to last season.

Salvatierra-Moore posted a SCAC-leading 1.64 blocks per set to go along with 1.82 kills per set and a .283 hitting percentage in the Bulldogs two wins at the Whitworth Classic. She began the season with six kills and a career-high 10 blocks in the win against Carleton and recorded five more blocks with a career-high nine kills on a .615 hitting percentage in the sweep of Whitman. The ten kills are tied for the second most in a match in program history and the most in a single-match by a Bulldog since Madison Weisinger in October 2021. In total, Salvatierra-Moore finished the weekend with a SCAC-leading 18 blocks on the weekend. After opening weekend, Salvatierra-Moore ranks seventh in all of Division-III in blocks and blocks per set.

TLU (2-1) opened the season with a pair of wins in the Whitworth Classic, including a sweep of Whitman. This week, the Bulldogs travel to Georgetown to compete in the SU Invitational as they compete against #RV Southwestern (9/4), #16 Illinois Wesleyan (9/5), and Puget Sound (9/5) at the Robertson Center on the campus of Southwestern University.
