SPOKANE, WA -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball dropped a tough four-set match to #RV Whitworth, the Whitworth Classic host who entered the 2025 season receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 Poll, 19-25, 15-25, 25-16, 20-25, Friday night at Whitworth Fieldhouse.

Andie Lozano-Lomeli (Brownsville/Pace), Briana Salvatierra-Moore (San Antonio/Antonian College Prep), and Zaria Solis (Burnet/Burnet) all finished with three blocks each.

Lozano-Lomeli led Texas Lutheran with 11 kills, while Moriah Williams (San Antonio/Roosevelt) and Solis both finished with seven kills.

Addison Gallegos (Pleasanton/Jourdanton) had 18 assists and eight digs while Naomi Gamboa (San Antonio/Warren), not to be outdone by her fellow freshman setter, had 13 assists and 11 digs for her first career double-double after Gallegos netted her first career double-double earlier in the day against Carleton. Richelle Guerra (Brownsville/Rivera) led the team with a career-high 25 digs and added two assists.

After a back-and-forth start, Whitworth began to pull away with a series of runs in the middle of the set before closing the set with a 25-19 victory.

Texas Lutheran got out to a 9-7 lead in the second set before Whitworth stormed back to take the set 25-15.

Texas Lutheran limited the Pirates to a -0.044 hitting percentage in the third set as the Bulldogs avoided the sweep with a 25-16 win in the third set.

The fourth and final set was a highly competitive one as TLU attempted to force a fifth set but came up just short, falling 25-20 in the fourth set as the Pirates pulled out the win.

Texas Lutheran will turn its attention to Whitman as they conclude the Whitworth Classic on Saturday, August 30 at 3:30 PM CT. The match will be streamed on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
