SEGUIN, Texas -- No. 5 Texas Lutheran completed the series sweep over Hendrix College in dominating fashion, winning 14-0 in five innings.
In the circle, pitchers
Jordyn Joy (Kerrville/Tivy) and
Jordyn Stuessy (Garden Ridge/Davenport) combined for a one-hitter while the TLU offense tallied ten hits.
The Bulldogs (30-3, 22-1 SCAC) did not allow Hendrix (10-20, 7-17 SCAC) to score a run on the weekend, outscoring the Warriors 33-0 in 16 innings. The offense stole 28 bases to bring TLU's season total to 194.
The 14 runs marked the seventh time the Bulldogs have scored 13 or more runs this season.
A pair of singles from
Caelee Clark (Montgomery/Lake Creek) and
Riley Davila (Angleton/Angelton) got the Bulldogs staretd in the first before two of the most dominant base stealers in the country combined on a double steal for the first run of the game.
Taylor Vannett (Kingwood/Kingwood) and
Ashley McMahon (Las Vegas, NV/Durango) contributed RBI singles to the three-run first inning.
The third inning was a marathon that saw TLU put up 11 runs on five hits and two Hendrix errors. After another RBI single from McMahon and a two-RBI single from
Harleigh Russell (Fort Worth/Boswell),
Taylor Vannett brought in a run on a bases loaded walk before
Serena Gonzalez (Corpus Christi/Foy H. Moody) broke the game open with a grand slam, her fourth home run of the season and 29th of her career.
Alyna Marrufo (San Antonio/Clark) scored on a Hendrix scoring error before a
Mia Landry (Cypress/Bridgeland) RBI single and a bases loaded walk from
Natalie Pacheco (Lytle/Lytle) ended the high-scoring inning.
Stuessy went two innings of flawless softball in the circle, while Joy went three innings to collect her eighth win of the season and struck out two. The two combined on the Bulldogs 17th shutout of the season and fifth consecutive.
At the plate, eight Bulldogs registered a hit in the contest led by two-hit efforts from
Caelee Clark and
Ashley McMahon. Six brought in at least one run with four bringing in two or more.
Caelee Clark went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs scored, bringing her NCAA leading tallies to 54 runs scored and 63 stolen bases. McMahon went 2-for-3 bringing in two runs on the day.
