AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 5 Texas Lutheran Softball fell to 7-2 to Concordia (TX) Friday evening at Roberts Family Field in the series opener between the two teams.
TLU and Concordia finished with nine hits each but the Tornados were able to take advantage of their opportunities against the Bulldogs.
After keeping the Bulldogs off the board in the first, Concordia (TX) got on the board early with two runs on two walks and two hits. Texas Lutheran got a run back in the second with an RBI single from
Caelee Clark (Montgomery/Lake Creek) (2-for-3, RBI, SB).
Concordia (TX) responded with two runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a decisive 6-1 lead.
Stepping up with the bases loaded,
Riley Davila (Angleton/Angleton) (3-for-4, RBI, SB) plated
Brey Jones (San Antonio/Brennan) (2-for-3, 2 SB, R) in the sixth with a two-out RBI single that seemed like it may start a late rally before the Tornados were able to make a play at the plate, one of four on the night from the Tornados. The Tornados got the run back in the bottom of the inning to add one more insurance run.
Katelyn Howard (Waller/Hempstead) struck out two and scattered nine hits across 5.0 innings of six-run ball, walking three while taking her first loss of the season and of her collegiate career. The 28 straight winning decisions is the second longest streak in program history, only trailing Ashlyn Strother's 39 game streak from 2022 to 2023.
Jordyn Stuessy (Garden Ridge/Davenport) allowed one unearned run out of the bullpen.
TLU and Concordia (TX) will face off in a doubleheader against the Tornados on Saturday in Austin to wrap the series. First pitch is scheduled for 12 and 2 PM. The games will be streamed on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
