No. 9 TLU Opens WCWS Thursday

WCWS BASICS


  • The 9th-ranked and No. 7 overall seed Texas Lutheran (44-3) returns to the highest stage in NCAA Division-III softball at the 2025 Women's College World Series in Bloomington, Illinois, beginning Thursday, May 29.
  • Texas Lutheran is vying for the second national title in program history.
  • The Bulldogs are making their fourth appearance all-time in the Women's College World Series. Only Trine University (4) has made as many trips to the WCWS as TLU since the 2019 season.
  • Texas Lutheran opens WCWS play versus Rowan on Thursday at 4 PM. The game can be seen on ncaa.com for FREE with Kit McConnico and Genna Rose on the call.
  • The games can be heard on AM 1580 KWED in Seguin and the Guadalupe County area with play-by-play announcer Chris Austin on the call.
  • Tickets will be available on site and online.
  • After 47 games played, the Bulldogs are batting .354 as a team with a nation-leading and NCAA record tying 233 stolen bases, 318 runs scored on 432 hits and 263 RBIs. They are outscoring opponents 318-71 with only 48 runs given up being earned. The team is slugging .461 and holds a .431 on-base clip and has 22 home runs as a team.
  • The pitching staff holds a 1.10 ERA, ranking second in NCAA Division-III, and has 183 strikeouts, allowing opponents to bat just .204. The staff has thrown 19 shutouts this year, ranking third in NCAA Division-III.

SECOND HOME


  • Texas Lutheran is making its fourth overall appearance at the WCWS, tying with Trine for the most in D3 since 2019.
  • Overall, this season marks Texas Lutheran's 11th consecutive appearance in the NCAA postseason, all coming under head coach Wade Wilson.
  • In 2019, TLU capped a 40-8 campaign by claiming the program's first national title. Freshman Chassety Raines claimed Most Outstanding Player of the WCWS while Rebecca Snow launched two homers and drove in five runs throughout the tourney. As a team, the Bulldogs stole 15 bases throughout the tournament.
  • The Bulldogs continue their Bulldog Party tour of firsts this postseason, making their first trip to Illinois.
  • Texas Lutheran has played in three different venues across their four WCWS appearances, one in Tyler, Texas, two in Salem, Virginia, and now travel to Bloomington, Illinois.
  • All-time, the program is 11-4 at the WCWS all under head coach Wade Wilson.

TLU VS. THE FIELD


  • Rowan: The Bulldogs and Rowan have never met in the program's two histories. Rowan is heading back to the NCAA Division III Women's College World Series for the third year in a row as the Profs won the Glassboro Super Regional against Salisbury. In total, it is Rowan's ninth trip to the World Series with their first coming in 1993.
  • Virginia Wesleyan: The two powerhouse programs last met in the 2021 WCWS with the Marlins besting the Bulldogs 9-1 to win the 2021 national championship. All-time, VWU holds a 3-1 advantage in the series.
  • Trine: TLU is 2-1 all-time versus the Thunder, including a 6-3 win at the 2019 WCWS. Most recently, the Bulldogs beat the Thunder 6-2 at the 2022 NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Georgia. 
  • Linfield: TLU is 2-1 all-time versus the Wildcats with the last matchup between the two perennial national championship contenders coming in the 2019 McMinnville Super Regional where the Bulldogs won the last matchup, 5-2, to advance to the 2019 WCWS.
  • Saint Mary's (MN): The Bulldogs and Saint Mary's (MN) have never met in the program's two histories. The Cardinals are making their first WCWS appearance since 2000. After droppin game one, the Cardinals rallied to win two games against Wisconsin-Whitewater to win the NCAA Winona Super Regional.
  • Redlands: Texas Lutheran has also never faced the Bulldogs of University of the Redlands who will be making their first WCWS appearance in program history after winning the NCAA Redlands Super Regional.
  • Randolph-Macon: Despite both programs appearing in the 2019 WCWS, the two programs have never face off against one another. Randolph-Macon won 1-0 against Moravian in a winner takes all game three in the the NCAA Bethlehem Super Regional to advance to their second WCWS.

LAST TIME OUT


  • The No. 9 ranked and 10th-seeded Bulldogs batled through the Marshall Super Regional, beating No. 1 seed East Texas Baptist in two games to advance to Bloomington, outscoring the Tigers 6-3.
  • Caelee Clark (Montgomery/Lake Creek) scored three times and Serena Gonzalez (Corpus Christi/Foy H. Moody) drove in three runs to support the combined efforts of Amanda White (Lockhart/Lockhart) and Katelyn Howard (Waller/Hempstead) to lead the Bulldogs to a 4-3 win in 10 innings.
  • Senior Amanda White led TLU to a 2-0 shutout victory win in game two of the supers, delivering the top-ranked Tigers first shutout out since May 19, 2023 and handing them just their third loss on their home field over the course of the last two seasons.
  • The Bulldogs tied their NCAA record from a season ago by stealing their 233rd base of the season in game two. TLU is 233-of-244 (.955) on the base paths so far this season.

#STOLENBASEU


  • As TLU paced the country in stolen bases seven of the last eight seasons (NCAA record 233 stolen bases 2024), the Bulldogs are off to another scorching pace in 2025, having matched their NCAA record from a season ago with 233 stolen bases, leading the NCAA across all three divisions in total stolen bases and stolen bases per game (4.95).
  • In 2025, the Bulldogs have stolen a base in 44 out of 47 games and stolen at least three bases in 41 of 47 games. Texas Lutheran stole a season-high 11 bases twice this season.
  • Individually, five Bulldogs have stolen double-digit bases and 19 out of 23 active non-pitchers have stolen at least one base. Caelee Clark (Montgomery/Lake Creek) and Annie Kay (Sinton/Sinton) pace the nation with 63 and 62 stolen bases respectively while Linzee Leal (Corpus Christi/Mary Carroll) ranks 21st with 37 stolen bases.
  • Three Bulldogs (Clark, Kay, Leal) all have 100 career stolen bases with Clark leading all active softball players on any level with 216 career stolen bases.
  • Six Bulldogs have a multi-stolen base game this season.

DOMINANCE IN THE CIRCLE


  • Texas Lutheran's pitching staff is not to be overlooked by the potent offense. The TLU staff of Amanda WhiteAinsley Davis (Rockwall/Jesuit (OR)), Katelyn Howard (Waller/Hempstead), Jordyn Joy (Kerrville/Tivy), Kezia Alvear (Kyle/Hays), and Jamie Burch (Sinton/Sinton) sit at second in the country with a 1.10 ERA, allowing just 48 earned runs (71 R) in TLU's 47 games. Additionally, the staff is third in the nation with 19 shutouts on the season.
  • Senior Amanda White, the 2025 SCAC Pitcher of the Year, leads the group with a 0.87 ERA, ranking sixth in the nation while tallying a team-high 105 strikeouts and seven saves.

FIVE BULLDOGS NAMED ALL-REGION


  • The Texas Lutheran softball program featured five student-athletes on the three National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region 10 (West) Teams. The NFCA announced the honors last Friday.
  • Senior Amanda White (Lockhart/Lockhart) and junior Annie Kay (Sinton/Sinton) both earned NFCA All-West Region First Team honors, while senior Faith Hernandez (Dinuba, CA/Dinuba) and juniors Caelee Clark (Montgomery/Lake Creek) and Serena Gonzalez (Corpus Christi/Foy H. Moody) were selected to the NFCA All-West Region Third Team.
  • Overall, this marks the third time in four seasons that TLU has had at least five nominees be selected.
  • All honorees move forward to be considered for selection for the three NFCA Division III All-America squads, which will be announced May 28 online and on-site at the NCAA Division III Finals banquet in Bloomington, Illinois.

KAY, WHITE NAMED TO NFCA PLAYER AND PITCHER OF THE YEAR WATCH LIST


  • Two members of the Texas Lutheran softball team were named to the 2025 NFCA Player and Pitcher of the Year Watch List in April.
  • Junior Annie Kay and senior Amanda White represented TLU as two of 119 players named to the watch list.
  • It marks the first time that either athlete has been named to the watch list.

MORE NOTES & NUMBERS


  • Texas Lutheran has won 198 of its last 224 games (.884 win%) dating back to the start of the 2021 season.
  • Of those 224 games, 79 have been via run-rule (35.6%).
  • The No. 9 Bulldogs has six top-25 wins on the season and rank tenth in the NCAA DIII NPI.
  • In their six top-25 wins, the Bulldogs have outscored opponents 28-11.
  • The Bulldogs have held opponents to one run or fewer in 30 of 47 games.
  • The pitching staff has sacrificed just 48 earned runs on the season to opponents. Individually, two Bulldogs have 48 or more runs scored.
  • TLU has 77 extra-base hits on the season to opponents' 26. Serena Gonzalez has 22 extra-base hits on the season by herself.
  • TLU's defense ranks fourth in Division-III with a .977 fielding percentage, committing 30 errors on the season. The defense has turned 25 double plays on the season, ranking third nationally.
  • Texas Lutheran has outhit its opponents in 40 of 47 games this season, and in the seven games they didn't outhit the opposition, the Bulldogs are 4-3.
  • TLU has been exceptional in a number of situations this season, hitting .401 with an RBI opportunity and leadoff hitters getting on base at a .433 clip. The team is batting .678 with a runner on third with less than two outs, led by Faith Hernandez's perfect 1.000 average (14-for-14). Annie Kay leads the team with 16 RBIs with two outs.

BULLDOGS DOMINATE SCAC AWARDS


  • Texas Lutheran softball collected or earned a share of three of the four SCAC yearly awards and placed six across the All-SCAC First and Second Teams, including a league-best five on the first team.
  • Junior Annie Kay was named SCAC Co-Player of the Year, while senior Amanda White was named Pitcher of the Year, and TLU head coach Wade Wilson and staff earned Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
  • Kay collects TLU's 11th consecutive SCAC Player of the Year award, winning the award every year since joining the conference in 2014. White earns her first career SCAC Pitcher of the Year honor. The honor is TLU's 10th since joining the SCAC and 12th overall since becoming an NCAA institution.
  • Wilson won his ninth SCAC Coach/Staff of the Year Award and tenth Coach of the Year overall in his 14 seasons at the helm in Seguin. This is the ninth SCAC Staff-of-the-Year (Coach) honor for Wilson and 10th overall as he was honored by the ASC in 2013 before earning the award in nine of the last 11 seasons in the SCAC.
  • Of the 13 student-athletes that made up the All-SCAC First Team, five of the selections are Bulldogs. Claiming First Team honors was Kay, White, senior Faith Hernandez, junior Caelee Clark, and designated player Serena Gonzalez.
  • Bella Rodriguez (Pearland/Pearland) was Texas Lutheran's lone representative on the All-SCAC Second Team, her second career All-SCAC honor.
  • Seniors Linzee Leal and Tavery Ortiz (Texas City/Texas City) and juniors Ainsley DavisKatelyn HowardHarleigh Russell, and Taylor Vannett (Kingwood/Kingwood)were named All-SCAC Honorable Mention to bring the Bulldogs All-SCAC total to 12 honorees.

HOME RUN QUEEN


  • Serena Gonzalez is the new home run queen of Texas Lutheran softball. During the Ithaca Regional, Gonzalez hit her 13th home run of the season and hit career home run No. 25 to break the tie with TLU alum Haley Padilla to be the new TLU career home run leader.
  • The Corpus Christi native hit three home runs in the regional, including two in the Regional Final - a new program record for home runs in a single Regional game.
  • The historic homers came in the bottom of the first and fourth innings versus Ithaca. Gonzalez went 2-for-3 in the game with two homers and four RBIs.

THE CAE WAY


  • Texas Lutheran second baseman Caelee Clark has showcased her versatility and dependability for the Bulldogs since she stepped foot on campus as a freshman in 2023 and her productivity from the leadoff spot has been pivotal to the Bulldogs success.
  • Clark has started and hit in the leadoff spot in every game for the Bulldogs over the last three seasons, with the Bulldogs being 117-16 over that span.
  • The speedy leadoff has continued to showcase her ability to get on base, tallying a team-high 26 walks while pacing the nation in stolen bases with 63 stolen bases. Clark has led the country in stolen bases in back-to-back seasons stealing 66 as a freshman and a NCAA record 87 bases a season ago.
  • The two-time All-American paces TLU in runs (61), walks (26) and stolen bases (63-67). She ranks in the top 10 nationally in stolen bases (1st), runs (6th), and runs per game (8th).
  • Earlier this season, Clark became just the second player in Division-III softball history and ninth player in NCAA history on any level to steal 200 bases in a career, joining former Bulldog Kelly Jurden.

'MANDA MANIA


  • After taking off last season, Texas Lutheran fifth-year senior right-hander Amanda White has returned to the Bulldogs rotation with a vengeance, having the best season of her career.
  • A two-time All-SCAC honoree, White has paced TLU's pitching staff with 105 strikeouts and a 0.87 ERA, allowing opponents to bat just .189. White has had a team-best six shutouts in 2025. 
  • With her performance this year, White has scattered her name over the TLU record book. Her 23 wins thus far are second only to former teammate Ashlyn Strother (25) for the most in a single-season and she ranks sixth all-time with 44 wins in her career. White set a new single-season record with seven saves in 2025, passing former teammate Sydney Ouellette's record of four.

ALL EYES ON AK


  • After being known for her defensive versatility her first two seasons, outfielder Annie Kay has had a breakout season for the Bulldogs posting one of the best offensive seasons in program history from the two-spot in the lineup.
  • The Gold Glove winning All-Region outfielder has built off her sophomore campaign that saw her raise her splits over 100 points in all three categories - to increase her productivity at the plate even further as a junior. Kay has raised her batting average 92 points, hitting .473 this season compared to .381 as a sophomore and her on-base percentage by over 30 points, reaching base at a .518 clip.
  • The Sinton native paces TLU in batting average (.473), on-base percentage (.518), and hits (69). She ranks in the top 20 nationally in stolen bases (2nd) and hits (14th).
