Bulldogs Set for Supers vs. No. 1 ETBU

WEEKEND BASICS


  • The 9th-ranked and No. 10 overall seed Texas Lutheran (42-3) continues its quest for another D3 Women's College World Series appearance and second national title as the Bulldogs travel to Marshall, Texas, to face the defending national champion, No. 1-seed East Texas Baptist in this weekend's NCAA Marshall Super Regional.
  • It marks TLU's third Super Regional appearance with their last appearance coming in 2022 (2021 there was no Super Regional).
  • TLU is 4-1 in Super Regional play in program history.
  • With two wins in this weekend's Super Regional, the Bulldogs would make their fourth appearance all-time in the D3 Women's College World Series - all coming since 2019.
  • Standing in the Bulldogs way are the Tigers of ETBU, the tournament's No. 1 national seed. ETBU is making its fourth Super Regional appearance in program history after winning its own regional in Marshall last weekend, defeating St. Thomas in the final.
  • Thursday's game is set for a 2 p.m. CT start on ncaa.com while Friday will be shown on ncaa.com at 1 p.m. CT with the if-necessary game time scheduled for 3:30 PM.
  • All games will be available on ncaa.com for FREE.
  • Tickets will be available on site and online. Adults ($15) and students/senior citizens/veterans ($10) with all tickets being single-day passes.
  • After 45 games played, the Bulldogs are batting .360 as a team with a nation-leading 231 stolen bases, 312 runs scored on 418 hits and 257 RBIs. They are outscoring opponents 312-68 with only 45 runs given up being earned. The team is slugging .471 and holds a .437 on-base clip and has 22 home runs as a team.
  • The pitching staff holds a 1.09 ERA, ranking second in NCAA Division-III, and has 180 strikeouts, allowing opponents to bat just .204.

MAYHEM


  • Texas Lutheran has made the NCAA Tournament every year since joining the SCAC in 2014, all under head coach Wade Wilson (tournament was not played in 2020).
  • In 2022, Texas Lutheran made its third D3 Women's College World Series appearance.
  • All-time, TLU has competed in three Women's College World Series, earning a National Championship in 2019.

A LOOK AT THE TIGERS


  • The Bulldogs and Tigers will meet for the third straight NCAA Tournament and for the eighth time in the NCAA Tournament in the program's two histories for this weekend's Super Regional. TLU is 4-6 all-time against the Tigers in NCAA Tournament play.
  • ETBU comes into the Marshall Super Regional at 43-3 and 15-1 in the American Southwest Conference, winning the conference's regular season and tournament crowns.
  • The Tigers are batting .351 on the year with 50 home runs, ranking fourth in Division-III. They have stolen 135 bases on 155 attempts and hold a .453 OBP and .569 slugging clip.
  • Freshman Katelynn Jones paces the team with a .431 batting average and 14 RBIs, earning All-ASC First Team honors, while sophomore Izabella Morales, who was a All-ASC First Team and NFCA Player of the Year Watch List honoree, paced everyday players with a .423 average with one home run and 45 RBI.
  • The Tigers return the 2024 Honda/NCWS Division III and NFCA National Player of the Year and the 2025 Marshall Regional Most Outstanding Player in shortstop Tristen Maddox who ranks fifth nationally in home runs (16), fourth in total bases (133), and 17th in RBIs (52).
  • In addition to Maddox, the Tigers roster boasts two additional All-Americans in third baseman Tauryn Cummings and designated player Haylie Stum.
  • In the circle, ETBU has three different pitchers with over 10 appearances on the year, led by Avery Holland's 13-1 record and 2.44 ERA to go with 60 strikeouts, earning All-ASC First Team honors and being named to the 2025 NFCA Player of the Year Watchlist.

LAST TIME OUT


  • The No. 9 ranked and 10th-seeded Bulldogs smashed their way through the Ithaca Regional, outscoring opponents 15-3, highlighted by a 9-1, run-rule victory in Saturday's final vs. No. 21 Ithaca.
  • TLU beat UMass-Boston, 3-1, in the opener, followed by a pair of wins over host, No. 21 Ithaca (3-1, 9-1 [6]).
  • Serena Gonzalez (Corpus Christi/Foy H. Moody) led TLU at the plate with a .625 batting average, going 5-for-8 on the weekend with a double, three home runs, and seven RBIs.
  • In the circle, senior Amanda White (Lockhart/Lockhart) and junior Katelyn Howard (Waller/Hempstead) allowed opponents just three runs to go with 21 strikeouts and eight walks.

#STOLENBASEU


  • As TLU paced the country in stolen bases seven of the last eight seasons (NCAA record 233 stolen bases 2024), the Bulldogs are off to another scorching pace in 2025, having stolen 231 bases, leading the NCAA across all three divisions in total stolen bases and stolen bases per game (5.02).
  • In 2025, the Bulldogs have stolen a base in 42 out of 45 games and stolen at least three bases in 41 of 45 games. Texas Lutheran stole a season-high 11 bases twice this season.
  • Individually, five Bulldogs have stolen double-digit bases and 19 out of 23 active non-pitchers have stolen at least one base. Caelee Clark (Montgomery/Lake Creek) and Annie Kay (Sinton/Sinton) pace the nation with 62 and 61 stolen bases respectively while Linzee Leal (Corpus Christi/Mary Carroll) ranks 21st with 37 stolen bases.
  • Three Bulldogs (Clark, Kay, Leal) all have 100 career stolen bases with Clark leading all active softball players on any level with 212 career stolen bases.
  • Six Bulldogs have a multi-stolen base game this season.

DOMINANCE IN THE CIRCLE


  • Texas Lutheran's pitching staff is not to be overlooked by the potent offense. The TLU staff of Amanda WhiteAinsley Davis (Rockwall/Jesuit (OR)), Katelyn Howard (Waller/Hempstead), Jordyn Joy (Kerrville/Tivy), Kezia Alvear (Kyle/Hays), and Jamie Burch (Sinton/Sinton) sit at second in the country with a 1.09 ERA, allowing just 45 earned runs (68 R) in TLU's 45 games. Additionally, the staff is third in the nation with 18 shutouts on the season.
  • Senior Amanda White, the 2025 SCAC Pitcher of the Year, leads the group with a 0.80 ERA, ranking third in the nation while tallying a team-high 102 strikeouts and six saves.

FIVE BULLDOGS NAMED ALL-REGION


  • The Texas Lutheran softball program featured five student-athletes on the three National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region 10 (West) Teams. The NFCA announced the honors last Friday.
  • Senior Amanda White (Lockhart/Lockhart) and junior Annie Kay (Sinton/Sinton) both earned NFCA All-West Region First Team honors, while senior Faith Hernandez (Dinuba, CA/Dinuba) and juniors Caelee Clark (Montgomery/Lake Creek) and Serena Gonzalez (Corpus Christi/Foy H. Moody) were selected to the NFCA All-West Region Third Team.
  • Overall, this marks the third time in four seasons that TLU has had at least five nominees be selected.
  • All honorees move forward to be considered for selection for the three NFCA Division III All-America squads, which will be announced May 28 online and on-site at the NCAA Division III Finals banquet in Bloomington, Illinois.

KAY, WHITE NAMED TO NFCA PLAYER AND PITCHER OF THE YEAR WATCH LIST


  • Two members of the Texas Lutheran softball team were named to the 2025 NFCA Player and Pitcher of the Year Watch List in April.
  • Junior Annie Kay and senior Amanda White represented TLU as two of 119 players named to the watch list.
  • It marks the first time that either athlete has been named to the watch list.

MORE NOTES & NUMBERS


  • Texas Lutheran has won 196 of its last 222 games (.883 win%) dating back to the start of the 2021 season.
  • Of those 222 games, 79 have been via run-rule (35.6%).
  • TLU's defense ranks seventh in Division-III with a .976 fielding percentage, committing 30 errors on the season. The defense has turned 22 double plays on the season, ranking fifth nationally.
  • Texas Lutheran has outhit its opponents in 38 of 45 games this season, and in the seven games they didn't outhit the opposition, the Bulldogs are 4-3.
  • TLU has been exceptional in a number of situations this season, hitting .406 with an RBI opportunity and leadoff hitters getting on base at a .440 clip. The team is batting .685 with a runner on third with less than two outs, led by Faith Hernandez's perfect 1.000 average (14-for-14). Annie Kay leads the team with 16 RBIs with two outs.

BULLDOGS DOMINATE SCAC AWARDS


  • Texas Lutheran softball collected or earned a share of three of the four SCAC yearly awards and placed six across the All-SCAC First and Second Teams, including a league-best five on the first team.
  • Junior Annie Kay was named SCAC Co-Player of the Year, while senior Amanda White was named Pitcher of the Year, and TLU head coach Wade Wilson and staff earned Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
  • Kay collects TLU's 11th consecutive SCAC Player of the Year award, winning the award every year since joining the conference in 2014. White earns her first career SCAC Pitcher of the Year honor. The honor is TLU's 10th since joining the SCAC and 12th overall since becoming an NCAA institution.
  • Wilson won his ninth SCAC Coach/Staff of the Year Award and tenth Coach of the Year overall in his 14 seasons at the helm in Seguin. This is the ninth SCAC Staff-of-the-Year (Coach) honor for Wilson and 10th overall as he was honored by the ASC in 2013 before earning the award in nine of the last 11 seasons in the SCAC.
  • Of the 13 student-athletes that made up the All-SCAC First Team, five of the selections are Bulldogs. Claiming First Team honors was Kay, White, senior Faith Hernandez, junior Caelee Clark, and designated player Serena Gonzalez.
  • Bella Rodriguez (Pearland/Pearland) was Texas Lutheran's lone representative on the All-SCAC Second Team, her second career All-SCAC honor.
  • Seniors Linzee Leal and Tavery Ortiz (Texas City/Texas City) and juniors Ainsley DavisKatelyn HowardHarleigh Russell, and Taylor Vannett (Kingwood/Kingwood)were named All-SCAC Honorable Mention to bring the Bulldogs All-SCAC total to 12 honorees.

HOME RUN QUEEN


  • Serena Gonzalez is the new home run queen of Texas Lutheran softball. During the Ithaca Regional last weekend, Gonzalez hit her 13th home run of the season and hit career home run No. 25 to break the tie with TLU alum Haley Padilla to be the new TLU career home run leader.
  • The Corpus Christi native hit three home runs last weekend, including two in the Regional Final - a new program record for home runs in a single Regional game.
  • The historic homers came in the bottom of the first and fourth innings versus Ithaca . Gonzalez went 2-for-3 in the game with two homers and four RBIs.

THE CAE WAY


  • Texas Lutheran second baseman Caelee Clark has showcased her versatility and dependability for the Bulldogs since she stepped foot on campus as a freshman in 2023 and her productivity from the leadoff spot has been pivotal to the Bulldogs success.
  • Clark has started and hit in the leadoff spot in every game for the Bulldogs over the last three seasons, with the Bulldogs being 115-16 over that span.
  • The speedy leadoff has continued to showcase her ability to get on base, tallying a team-high 23 walks while pacing the nation in stolen bases with 62 stolen bases. Clark has led the country in stolen bases in back-to-back seasons stealing 66 as a freshman and a NCAA record 87 bases a season ago.
  • The two-time All-American paces TLU in runs (57), walks (23) and stolen bases (62-65). She ranks in the top 20 nationally in stolen bases (1st), runs (10th), and runs per game (14th).
  • Earlier this season, Clark became just the second player in Division-III softball history and ninth player in NCAA history on any level to steal 200 bases in a career, joining former Bulldog Kelly Jurden.

'MANDA MANIA


  • After taking off last season, Texas Lutheran fifth-year senior right-hander Amanda White has returned to the Bulldogs rotation with a vengeance, having the best season of her career.
  • A two-time All-SCAC honoree, White has paced TLU's pitching staff with 102 strikeouts and a 0.80 ERA, allowing opponents to bat just .187. White has had a team-best five shutouts in 2025. 
  • With her performance this year, White has scattered her name over the TLU record book. Her 22 wins thus far are second only to former teammate Ashlyn Strother (25) for the most in a single-season and she ranks sixth all-time with 43 wins in her career. White set a new single-season record with six saves in 2025, passing former teammate Sydney Ouellette's record of four.

ALL EYES ON AK


  • After being known for her defensive versatility her first two seasons, outfielder Annie Kay has had a breakout season for the Bulldogs posting one of the best offensive seasons in program history from the two-spot in the lineup.
  • The Gold Glove winning All-Region outfielder has built off her sophomore campaign that saw her raise her splits over 100 points in all three categories - to increase her productivity at the plate even further as a junior. Kay has raised her batting average 118 points, hitting .489 this season compared to .381 as a sophomore and her on-base percentage by over 40 points, reaching base at a .532 clip.
  • The Sinton native paces TLU in batting average (.489), on-base percentage (.532), and hits (68). She ranks in the top 20 nationally in stolen bases (2nd) and hits (14th).
