CLEBURNE, Texas -- #RV Texas Lutheran Baseball dropped its opener in the 2026 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Champeionship Tournament to McMurry, 5-4, on Saturday at La Moderna Field.
The Bulldogs (28-13) will now face an elimination game on Sunday at 3 p.m. The game will be streamed on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
Triston McGowan (Vidor/Vidor) started and pitched eight innings, allowing four runs on nine hits with one strikeout. He departed with the Bulldogs leading 4-3 and did not factor in the decision.
Parker Schutte (Arlington/Lamar) pitched an inning out of the bullpen. He was charged with the loss after allowing a two-RBI single in the top of the ninth inning.
Chase Bourgeois (League City/Clear Falls) went 2-for-5Â at the plate with a stolen base, an RBI, and a run scored.
Caleb Alfaro (San Antonio/St. Anthony Catholic) was 1-for-2 with three walks, a stolen base, an RBI, and a run scored.
The War Hawks took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and carried that lead until the fifth inning. After a hit by pitch and a walk,
Brayden Sprencel (Robstown/Calallen) drove in the first run of the game on a sacrifice bunt before a bases loaded, RBI fielder's choice from
Kadyn Hall (La Grange/La Grange) tied the game 2-2 in the fifth.
Texas Lutheran took the lead in the sixth inning, starting with
Cooper Jen (Kyle/Hays) reaching on an error. A sac bunt moved Jen into scoring position before an RBI single from Bourgeois gave the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead. An RBI single from Alfaro in the eighth inning scored Bourgeois extended the TLU lead to 4-2 entering the ninth.
McMurry retook the lead in the ninth with three runs on three hits and an error before retiring the Bulldogs in order to end the game in the ninth.
