No. 16 Bulldogs Dominate Relays, 4x400m Relay Breaks Program Record at Trinity Last Chance Meet

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The No. 16 Texas Lutheran men's track and field team continued its push toward the 2026 NCAA Division-III National Championships as the Bulldogs sent a small contingent to San Antonio to compete in the Trinity Last Chance Meet in San Antonio on Sunday.

Sunday was highlighted by a win from the TLU 4x100m relay team and a record-breaking performance from the 4x400m relay team. The relay team comprised of Rickey Franks (Rockport/Rockport-Fulton), Eden Perez (Hebbronville/Hebbronville), Tavion Parrish (Kyle/Johnson), and Hezekiah McDow (Goliad/Weiss) won the race with a time of 40.79 seconds. The team currently ranks 12th nationally entering the final days of qualifying, as the top 16 declared teams will be selected for the NCAA Championships. The SCAC champion Texas Lutheran 4x400m relay team comprised of Braylen Brown (San Antonio/Randolph), Eden Perez, Gavino Ramirez (Alice/Alice), and Caden Keller (McAllen/McAllen), continued to compete for one of the final qualifying spots in the 2026 national championships on Sunday, winning the race with a season-best time of 3:12.07. The time not only moves the squad into 15th nationally, but it also breaks the TLU program record in the event that was previously set in 2018 (3:12.27).

Brown, a 2025 NCAA Championship qualifier, increased his chances of returning to the national stage on Sunday, running the 400m dash in 47.22 seconds to finish third overall and first amongst Division-III sprinters. The time currently ranks 19th in Division-III with Brown needing to be in the top 22 to qualify for nationals.

Amir McClain (Converse/Veterans Memorial), the fifth-ranked triple jumper in Division-III, finished second in the event with a mark of 14.74m (48-4.25).

Parker Cabra (Schertz/Randolph), who enters the week ranked ninth in Division-III in the high jump, finished second in the event on Sunday with a mark of 2.01m (6-7.25). Cabra also finished fourth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.87 seconds.
