PROBABLE PITCHING MATCHUP
McMurry LHP Braydon Durst (3-4, 5.67 ERA) vs. Texas Lutheran RHP Triston McGowan (8-2, 4.36 ERA)
THE MATCHUP — Coming off its best regular season since 2022, No. 1 seed Texas Lutheran makes its return to the SCAC Tournament after missing last season's tournament in Round Rock. In the quarterfinals, the Bulldogs will face McMurry in the tournament's second round after earning a first round bye. The two sides have met 32 times dating back to 2007, most recently squaring off in their respective conference opening series to open SCAC play in February with the Bulldogs winning the series in Seguin. The Bulldogs lead the series 23-9 dating back to 2007.
WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS — Texas Lutheran won the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference for the first time since 2023, clinching the conference championship outright by winning their series last weekend against Dallas in Irving. The Bulldogs, who were picked fourth in the conference's preseason poll, won the league by a game. Texas Lutheran's 21-9 ledger in SCAC action is also their best performance in league play since the 2023 season. The Bulldogs were the lone SCAC team to win finish with single digit losses in league play.
REVIEWING THE RESUME — As of April 30, the Bulldogs are 79th nationally in RPI. While Texas Lutheran's No. 79 ranking paces the SCAC, the ranking would not be high enough for an at-large bid - making the SCAC a one-bid league for the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs posted a combined record of 1-2 against teams ranked higher than them in NPI with the lone victory coming against the then national No.1 Trinity.
THE EYES OF TEXAS ARE UPON YOU — Since the second week of the season, Texas Lutheran has been in or around the national conversation. Texas Lutheran climbed the rankings throughout the 2026 season, reaching as high as No. 11 in the D3baseball.com Top 25. Entering the SCAC Tournament, the Bulldogs continue to receive votes in the top 25 poll.
CALL CODY — Right-hander Cody Andrade (Calallen/Calallen) has made a name for himself in his freshman campaign. In SCAC play, Andrade ranked third with three saves. His six saves this season are the most by a TLU freshman ever. Overall, the 5-foot-10, 175-pound hurler has notched a 1-0 ledger with six saves, which ranks 20th nationally. Andrade has yielded only 11 earned runs in 25 2/3 innings.
COLE WORLD — After splitting time behind the plate a year ago, Cole Cravens (Round Rock/Round Rock) has solidified himself as Texas Lutheran's primary catcher in 2026. A likely All-SCAC selection, Cravens is having the best offensive season of his career, hitting .348 with nine doubles, three home runs, 29 RBI and a .545 slugging percentage - ranking in the top five on the team in all categories. After having just one extra base hit in his first two seasons, Cravens has 14 this season. Cravens has also thrown out five runners this season behind the plate for the Bulldogs.
PEAVY POWER — Senior Adam Peavy (Houston/Memorial) has been one of the most prolific hitters in the country this season. Peavy brings a big bat back to the heart of Texas Lutheran's lineup pacing the club in slugging (.735), OPS (1.332) and home runs (7), while tying for second on the team in multi-RBI games (11). The first baseman has notched a SCAC-leading .447 average and drove in 39 RBI. Nationally, Peavy ranks in the top 25 in batting average (23rd), hit by pitch (22, 10th), and on-base percentage (3rd).
its a small world — Sophomore Caleb Small (Round Rock/Gateway College Preparatory) has blossomed into a force to be reckoned with for the Bulldogs. Through the regular season, the 6-foot, 200-pound slugger sits second on the club in RBI (41), while having the second-most homers (6). Over Opening Weekend, Small finished 6-for-13 (.462/.462/1.077) with three doubles, a triple, a home run, seven RBI and seven runs scored to earn SCAC Hitter of the Week honors. Small leads the SCAC in runs scored (51) and is tied with teammate Chase Bourgeois (League City/Clear Falls) for seventh nationally in triples (6). Small also leads the team with 16 stolen bases and ten assists from the outfield.
TLU FIGHT — Heading into the postseason, Texas Lutheran has notched nine come-from-behind wins. The Bulldogs have tallied five victories trailing after six innings. On March 21, Texas Lutheran overcame a five-run deficit against Mary Hardin-Baylor in Marshall, scoring seven runs over the final four innings. Surprisingly, in one-run games, the Bulldogs have notched an 0-3 record.
SCORING IN BUNCHES — Texas Lutheran has shown its ability to put crooked numbers on the scoreboard. The Bulldogs scored at least seven runs on 26 different occasions this season, maxing out at 17 runs against Dallas last weekend. Overall, the Bulldogs have notched double-digit runs 17 times, tallying eight run-rule victories over Howard Payne (twice), McMurry, Schreiner, Southwestern (twice), Hendrix, and Dallas.
