ABILENE, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran men's track and field program continued competition at the 2026 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships on Saturday at Wilford Moore Stadium on the campus of McMurry University. After starting the day in third, Texas Lutheran climbed into second place in the men's standings with 68 points behind meet leader Colorado College, who holds a narrow lead over TLU with 72 points. Saturday featured event finals in jumps, throws, and distance competition while sprint events had preliminary competition.
Amir McClain's (Converse/Judson) stellar 2026 season rolled into the 2026 SCAC Championships on Saturday. After breaking numerous TLU records this season, McClain claimed first place in the triple jump on Saturday - shattering the previous SCAC record - leaping 15.18 meters (49' 9 3/4"), six plus inches longer than the previous record. Today's jump currently places McClain third in all of Division-III. The former SCAC mark of 49' 3 1/2" had been set in 2009. Senior
Nell Horton (Detroit, MI/East English Village Prep) was third in the event with a jump of 13.77 meters (45' 2 1/4").
McClain also added four points in the high jump with a mark of 1.92m (6' 03.50").
After finishing second the last two seasons,
Parker Cabra (Schertz/Randolph) finally got over the hump - clearing 2.09 meters (6' 10 1/4") in the high jump to earn gold. This effort was just short of the conference championship meet record of 6' 10 3/4" - placing him second on the league's all-time performance list. He had finished second in the event for the past two championships. In addition to his gold winning performance, Cabra had the fastest qualifying time in the 110m hurdles on Saturday, finishing in 14.81 seconds.
Despite missing the podium,
Jonas Martinez (Edinburg/Homeschool) still made history on Saturday, breaking the TLU program record for the 10K, finishing fourth in the event with a time of 33:21.42 - besting the previous record by over a minute.
In throws,
Ian Wollard (Round Rock/Cedar Ridge) finished third in the hammer throw with a mark of 43.09m (141-04), a new personal best while
Beau Hill (Salado/Salado) finished right behind him in fourth at 42.91m (140-09) adding four points to the team tally.
Texas Lutheran was responsible for three of the four fastest times in the 400m dash preliminaries, led by
Gavino Ramirez (Alice/Alice) at 48.14 seconds.
The Bulldogs continue their pursuit of a SCAC title on Sunday in Abilene, with the day's starting gun set to fire at 8 AM. The meet will be streamed on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
