#RV Baseball Secures Concordia (TX) Series with Friday Split

SEGUIN, Texas -- #RV Texas Lutheran Baseball split a doubleheader against Concordia (TX), securing the series with a 16-7 win before dropping the series finale 11-1 on Friday at Katt-Isbel Field to wrap the 2026 regular season home season slate.

In game one, Texas Lutheran matched their season-high with 16 runs to secure the series against Concordia (TX) with a 16-7 win.

The Bulldogs scored in five of the eight innings they stepped to the plate and all nine Bulldog starters had at least one hit, while seven of the nine drove in at least one run.

Cooper Jen (Kyle/Hays) finished a triple short of the cycle going 3-for-4 with a three-run home run and three runs scored while Caleb Small (Round Rock/Gateway College Preparatory) finished 2-for-3 with a two-run inside the park home run, four RBI, and four runs scored. Caleb Alfaro (San Antonio/St. Anthony Catholic) also drove in three runs.

Jack Grames (Elgin/Elgin) finished with 4.1 innings pitched and seven runs allowed on four hits and six walks. He struck out three in a no-decision. 

Parker Schutte (Arlington/Lamar) pitched 4.2 innings of relief with two strikeouts to earn his fifth win of the season.

Concordia (TX) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before Texas Lutheran got two of the runs back in the bottom of the second inning. A throwing error on dual rundowns led to Michael Barrera (San Antonio/East Central) scoring the first run of the game before a sacrifice fly from Chase Bourgeois (League City/Clear Falls) plated the final run of the inning to cut the Tornados lead in half.

Texas Lutheran used a big third inning to take a 7-4 lead. All nine TLU starters had an at-bat in the inning and used five hits, two Tornados errors, and one walk. Caleb Small hit a two-RBI single and Cooper Jen hit a three-run homer over the left field fence.

Concordia (TX) chased Grames in the fifth, tying the game at 7-all.

Texas Lutheran answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth to make it 11-7. A two-out, two RBI double from Alfaro was followed by RBI an RBI single from Brayden Sprencel (Robstown/Calallen) and an RBI triple from Tyler Helpenstill (Houston/Lutheran South).

Aiden Spires (Fort Worth/Arlington Heights) and Alfaro hit RBI singles in the sixth to stretch the lead to 13-7.

An RBI sacrifice bunt from Barrera and the two-run inside the park homer from Small in the seventh completed the scoring.

Texas Lutheran dropped the series finale, 11-1.

Concordia (TX) got an early lead and never let up. Texas Lutheran scored their first and only run of the game in the first on an RBI single from Cole Cravens (Round Rock/Round Rock) before the Tornados scored 11 unanswered starting in the second inning.

Starter Isaiah Ramirez (San Antonio/Marshall) pitched 3.1 innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on four hits.

Concordia (TX) scored in six of their nine trips to the plate in the series finale.

The Bulldogs (26-11, 19-8 SCAC) will close out the regular season with a three-game road series at Dallas starting on Saturday, April 25 in Irving.
