IRVING, Texas -- #RV Texas Lutheran Baseball tallied 15 hits and rode 8.1 innings from
Triston McGowan (Vidor/Vidor) to beat Dallas 8-3 and claim a share of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championship on Friday afternoon at Crusader Field in Irving, Texas.
The Bulldogs (27-11, 20-8 SCAC)Â will go for the sweep and the outright regular season championship on Saturday with their doubleheader starting at 12 PM. Both games will be streamed on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
McGowan allowed three runs over 8.1 innings to improve to 8-2 on the season. He struck out a season-high ten batters and issues three walks in his eight-plus innings of work.
Michael Barrera (San Antonio/East Central) finished 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored to lead the Bulldogs while
Cooper Jen (Kyle/Hays) drove in a team-high three runs while
Brayden Sprencel (Robstown/Calallen) added two.
The Bulldogs tacked on three runs in the third to take a 3-0 lead. Jen hit a two-RBI double before
Aiden Spires (Fort Worth/Arlington Heights) drove him in with an RBI single.
Texas Lutheran scratched out two runs in the fourth to extend the lead to 5-0 on a pair of RBI doubles from Sprencel and Barrera.
Dallas got on the board with a three-run sixth inning to trim the Bulldogs lead to 5-3.
Sprencel drove in his second run of the game in the seventh on an RBI single.
Texas Lutheran added two insurance runs in the eighth after a sacrifice fly from
Caleb Small (Round Rock/Gateway College Preparatory) and an RBI single from
Cooper Jen.
Cody Andrade (Calallen/Calallen) closed out the ballgame, getting the final two outs with back-to-back strikeouts.
