GEORGETOWN, Texas -- #RV Texas Lutheran Baseball cruised to a 12-2 win over Southwestern Tuesday night at Rockwell Family Field. The Bulldog pitching staff combined to allow only two hits to the Pirates offense.
Carter Conroy (Spring/Klein Cain) started and pitched 2.2 solid innings, striking out one and only allowing one base runner and was charged with one run. Conroy was credited with his second win of the season, both coming against the Pirates.
Carson Hues (Mont Belvieu/Barbers Hill) allowed one run on two hits and a walk.
Chase Hallmark (Seguin/Marion) pitched two no-hit, scoreless innings of relief while
Joe Hernandez (Rosenberg/George Ranch) retired the lone batter he faced.
Caden Salamanca (Missouri City/Ridge Point) pitched a scoreless seventh, walking three and striking out three to get out of the jam.
After a scoreless first, Texas Lutheran scratched out five runs on four hits in the top of the second inning. A two-RBI single from
Tyler Helpenstill (Houston/Lutheran South) got the scoring started before
Caleb Small (Round Rock/Gateway College Preparatory) provided the big blow, smashing a three-run home run. Small finished 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs scored.
The Bulldogs brought home four more in the third inning to extend the lead to 9-0.
Cooper Jen (Kyle/Hays) hit an RBI single to let
Adam Peavy (Houston/Memorial) scamper home.
Garrett Helpenstill (Houston/Lutheran South) hit a three-run homer - his first home run of the season and the first since 2024 after missing the 2025 season due to injury.
The Pirates got on the board in the third after two hits, a hit by pitch, and a TLU error leading to their only offense on the night.
The Bulldogs added another run in the fourth on an RBI single from
Garrett Helpenstill.
Garrett Helpenstill finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored.
Texas Lutheran scored another run in the fifth on an RBI double from
Brayden Sprencel (Robstown/Callallen). An RBI single from
Cole Cravens (Round Rock/Round Rock) was responsible fro the final run of the night.
The Bulldogs (24-10) return their attention to SCAC play as they welcome Concordia (TX) to Katt-Isbel Field for a three-game series. The series opener is tentatively scheduled for 6 PM on Friday, April 17.
