QUANTICO, MD -- The Texas Lutheran women's golf team finished second at the Sea Gull Invitational Sunday afternoon at Green Hill Country Club in Quantico, Maryland. The Bulldogs finished the tournament shooting 167-over par.
After shooting 90-over on Saturday, the Bulldogs responded with a 77-over final round to finish as tournament runner-ups to tournament host, Salisbury (+125).
Sophomore Belle Asbury (San Antonio/Davenport) matched her opening round effort of 11-over to finish as the individual tournament runner-up at 22-over par. Asbury's second round was the second best round turned in on Sunday by the tournament's 23 golfers.
Freshman Lillian Niemeyer (Conroe/Conroe) and junior Jordyn Ponewash (Flatonia/Flatonia) joined Asbury in the top ten, finishing fourth and ninth respectively. The top ten finish is the first of Niemeyer's career and the third for Ponewash. Niemeyer finished the tournament 33-over par while Ponewash ended with a 36-hole score of 46-over.
Freshman Shayla Huynh (Grand Rapids, MI/Steele) climbed five spots with a 20-shot improvement in round two (+23) to finish the tournament in 12th place at 66-over par.
Texas Lutheran turns its attention to the SCAC Championship Tournament April 19-21 at Hawks Creek Golf Club in Westworth Village, Texas.
