GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran track and field opened its outdoor season at the CenTex Invite in Georgetown on Saturday - one of the first outdoor track and field events in the country this season. Despite the excitement of getting back on the track, Texas storms had other ideas as the meet was canceled around 2 PM with around ten events completed.
The Bulldogs didn't let the weather effect them as they still found a way to make history before the Texas storms took over.
Saturday was highlighted by a record-breaking performance from senior
Gabriel Ceballos (San Antonio/Smithson Valley), who finished second in the 3000m steeplechase with a program record time of 10:18.38. The time breaks his own program record time of 10:24.05
set just a year ago. Fellow senior
Lucas Falcon (Victoria/Victoria East) also had a great showing that surpassed Ceballos' previous record time, finishing third at 10:22.56.
Even with a different configuration, the Texas Lutheran 4x100m relay team was able to win the event and carry momentum over from indoor season. The relay team comprised of
Eden Perez (Hebbronville/Hebbronville),
David Hinojosa (Edinburg/McAllen),
Sammy Bode (Seguin/Seguin), and
Hezekiah McDow (Goliad/Weiss) won the event with a time of 42.30.
For the second straight year, junior
Parker Cabra (Schertz/Randolph) won the high jump at the CenTex Invite. Cabra won the event with a mark of 1.82m (5-11.75).
