ALPINE, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran men's tennis team swept Division-II Sul Ross State Friday evening in Alpine. The win marks the 16th straight victory over the Lobos dating back to 2012. This marks the third straight sweep over the Lobos dating back to last season.
Texas Lutheran swept in both doubles and singles competition.
Texas Lutheran entered doubles play with an advantage by virtue of winning a match by default. TLU clinched the doubles point by sweeping the two matches that were physically played on Saturday. . The team of Jackson Leslie (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) and Barrett Spaar (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) won their match 6-3 while the team of freshmen Vincent Carney (Austin/McCallum) and Ryan Santana won in a decisive 6-0 fashion.
TLU automatically won a point in singles competition by default before Cash Herrera (New Braunfels/New Braunfels), Ajonte St. Ville (St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda/AESA Prep International (TX)), Kadon Sullins (Kyle/Lehman), Eric Moninger (New Braunfels/New Braunfels), and Alejandro Alvarez (Uvalde/Uvalde) won their matches in straight sets.
The two teams will face off again in Alpine Saturday morning at 9 AM.
