SAN ANGELO/SAN MARCOS, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran track and field team split up this weekend as a contingent of Bulldogs competed in the David Noble Relays hosted by Angelo State University over the course of two days in San Angelo while the TLU distance and throws teams competed in the Charles Austin Classic hosted by Texas State in meets featuring athletes from all three NCAA levels.
The David Noble Relays were highlighted by sophomore Amir McClain (Converse/Veterans Memorial) who further etched his name into the TLU record books, breaking his own program record in the triple jump for the second week in a row with a winning mark of 14.72m (48' 3.5"). The mark ranks second in all of NCAA Division-III. Gabriel Ceballos (San Antonio/Smithson Valley) continued to impress in the steeplechase at the Charles Austin Classic, breaking his own school record by 16 seconds with a time of 10:02.57 to finish tenth. Lucas Falcon (Victoria/Victoria East) narrowly missed the record in his own right, finishing right behind him with a time of 10:04.25.
Fresh off earning SCAC Track Athlete of the Week honors, Hezekiah McDow (Goliad/Weiss) finished second in the 200m dash with a time of 21.97 seconds and tenth in the 100m dash (10.88).
Sophomore Terry Barnes (San Marcos/San Marcos) finished second in the 800m run with a time of 1:58.75.
Parker Cabra (Schertz/Randolph) finished fourth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.78 seconds while Rickey Franks (Rockport/Rockport-Fulton) finished seventh in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.87 seconds. Cabra also added a second place finish in the high jump with a final mark of 2.00m (6' 6.75").
The Texas Lutheran 4x400m relay team comprised of Eden Perez (Hebbronville/Hebbronville), David Hinojosa (Edinburg/McAllen), Caden Keller (McAllen/McAllen), and Gavino Ramirez (Alice/Alice) finished fifth with a time of 3:16.34. The time is a season-best for Texas Lutheran and ranks them in eighth in NCAA Division-III.
After missing last weekend's TLU Invite, Braylen Brown (San Antonio/Randolph) ran a time of 48.83 seconds in the 400m dash to finish ninth.
In throws, Jaxson Griscom (San Antonio/Randolph) finished fifth in the javelin throw with a mark of 46.01m (150' 11"). Jose Daniel Rubalcava (Edinburg/Robert Vela) finished with mark of 40.70m (133' 6") in the discus throw, a mark that ranks sixth in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC).
