SEGUIN, Texas -- The No. 5 Texas Lutheran softball team plated a season-high 15 runs across five innings in a 15-0 shutout of Schreiner on Friday evening in game one of the conference series at Ed Kruse Stadium.
Texas Lutheran (22-3, 14-1 SCAC) recorded its eighth run-rule win and 11th shutout of 2026 with the blanking of Schreiner (8-18, 5-11 SCAC).
Junior left fielder
Riley Davila (Angleton/Angleton) reached in all four of her plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with a program-record tying four runs scored, two RBIs, and two walks drawn. Davila has reached safely in 23 of the Bulldogs 25 games so far this season.
Infielders
Caelee Clark (Montgomery/Lake Creek) (3-for-4, 3 R, 2 SB) and
Cady Bowyer (Fulshear/Jordan) (3-for-4, 3B, R, SB) also had multi-hit efforts in the win. The Bulldogs 1-through-5 hitters combined to score 10 runs and go 10-for-12 with three walks.
In all, five Bulldogs provided multi-RBI efforts with Davila,
Taylor Vannett (Kingwood/Kingwood),
Serena Gonzalez (Corpus Christi/Foy H. Moody), and
Jordyn Joy (Kerrville/Tivy) all driving in two runs each while Bowyer led the team with a three RBI performance.
The Texas Lutheran lineup supported a terrific start by senior right-hander
Katelyn Howard (Waller/Hempstead), who retired 12 of 13 batters faced on 51 pitches. She improved to 13-0 on the season with four innings of one-hit ball, striking out four.
Clark opened the game with a leadoff bunt single before stealing second base and being joined on the base paths by Davila who drew a walk in her first at-bat. Vannett moved them over with a sacrifice bunt before Clark scored on a sacrifice fly from Gonzalez for the first run of the game. An RBI triple from
Cady Bowyer added the final run of the frame.
A seven-run Bulldogs second inning was death by 1000 cuts as seven singles, two walks, and two sacrifice flies combined for the crooked number. Vannett blasted an RBI double in the third for her only official at-bat. Texas Lutheran added five more runs in the fourth highlighted by a pinch-hit RBI single from
Natalie Pacheco (Lytle/Lytle) and a pinch-hit two-RBI single from Joy.
Jamie Burch (Sinton/Sinton) tossed a scoreless inning of work to close out the run-rule win.
The Bulldogs turn around for a doubleheader at Ed Kruse Stadium on Saturday with the Mountaineers to wrap the three-game series. First pitch is slated for 1 PM. The games will be streamed on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
