CLARKSVILLE, AR -- No. 3 Texas Lutheran completed the three-game sweep of Ozarks (AR) on Saturday with a 2-0 win at Wilson Athletic Complex in Clarksville, Arkansas.
Sophomore transfer
Jordyn Stuessy (Garden Ridge/Davenport) scattered five hits and three walks, striking out two to toss a complete-game shutout. The shutout is the first of her collegiate career.
Senior
Taylor Vannett (Kingwood/Kingwood) hit an RBI double in the first and junior
Ashley McMahon (Las Vegas, NV/Durango) hit an RBI single in the fourth to give the Bulldogs (16-2, 13-1 SCAC) their 16th victory of the year.Â
TLU registered just five hits, their second lowest hit total in a game this season.
In the first,
Caelee Clark (Montgomery/Lake Creek) hit a one-out single before stealing second and third to set up a run scoring opportunity for
Taylor Vannett who drove her in with an RBI double. With her two stolen bases, Clark brought her career total to 252, becoming just the second player in NCAA history across all levels to eclipse 250 career stolen bases. Her chase for the NCAA career stolen base crown is now just her and Georgia's Nicole Barber (257).
Stuessy controlled the Ozarks offense until a two-out RBI single from
Ashley McMahon in the fourth scored
Harleigh Russell (Fort Worth/Boswell) to double the Bulldogs lead.
Stuessy finished things for the Bulldogs in the seventh, striking out the final batter she saw Saturday morning.
Five different Bulldogs were responsible for TLU's five hits on Saturday.
On the season, the TLU pitching staff holds a Division-III leading eight shutouts.
The third-ranked Bulldogs return to action this week as they host the TLU Invitational starting with a midweek doubleheader with St. Olaf on Wednesday, March 18. First pitch is slated for 5 & 7Â PM with the games being broadcast on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
