SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Baseball picked up two wins on Friday night over Ozarks (AR) at Katt-Isbel Field. TLU won game one 13-4 before having to comeback from an early deficit to win 8-5 in game two.
The Bulldogs (15-3, 11-3 SCAC) pounded out 18 hits, including five doubles, to open the series with a 13-4 victory.
Isaiah Ramirez (San Antonio/Marshall) pitched 6.1 no-hit innings in relief to pick up his third win of the season. Ramirez walked three and struck out six.
Adam Peavy (Houston/Memorial) went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, two RBI, and two runs scored, while
Aiden Spires (Fort Worth/Arlington Heights) was 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Ozarks (AR) got on the board first with two runs in the top of the first.
Texas Lutheran got the runs right back and then some. An RBI double from Peavy got the Bulldogs on the board before an RBI fielder's choice from
Cole Cravens (Round Rock/Round Rock) tied the game 2-2 after one. Texas Lutheran added four more runs to take a 6-2 lead in the second. Back-to-back singles started the inning before a failed pickoff attempt led to
Mathew Elizondo (Eagle Pass/Eagle Pass) scoring the first run of the inning. Spires followed with a sacrifice fly to increase the lead to 4-2.
Brayden Sprencel (Robstown/Calallen) drove in a run with an RBI double before
Adam Peavy capped off the inning with a two-out RBI single.
The Eagles scored two runs in the top of the third to trim the Bulldogs lead to 6-4.
TLU got a run back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single from
Michael Barrera (San Antonio/East Central). The Bulldogs blew the game open in the fourth with three more runs to grab a 10-4 lead.
Caleb Small (Round Rock/Gateway College Preparatory) hit a sacrifice fly to start the scoring before
Aiden Spires kept the pressure on with an RBI double.
Cooper Jen (Kyle/Hays) scored the final run of the inning on a wild pitch.
An RBI single from Jen, an Ozarks (AR) error, and an RBI fielder's choice from
Chase Bourgeois (League City/Clear Falls) were responsible for the Bulldogs' final runs in the seventh.
The third-ranked Bulldogs erased a two-run deficit to notch an 8-5 series-securing victory over Ozarks (AR) in Friday's second game.
The Bulldogs trailed 2-0 and were no-hit through four frames, but Texas Lutheran rallied for its fourth comeback victory of the season.
Caleb Small recorded the first hit of the game for the Bulldogs to lead off the fifth inning. An RBI single from
Cooper Jen cut the Eagles lead in half in the sixth.
The Eagles got the run back in the seventh. TLU took advantage of the Ozarks defense to take the lead in the seventh.
Tyler Helpenstill (Pearland/Lutheran South) led off the inning with a single before scoring on a wild pitch. Errors moved TLU runners around before an RBI groundout from Sprencel tied the game at 3-3.
Ozarks responded with two more runs in the eighth as they attempted to upset the Bulldogs in Seguin. TLU put together a five-spot in the bottom of the inning on just two hits.
Kadyn Hall (La Grange/La Grange) led off the inning with a double before scoring on an RBI fielder's choice from
Aiden Spires. A bases loaded RBI single from
Michael Barrera tied the game 5-5. TLU took the lead on an RBI hit by pitch from
Adam Peavy before tacking on insurance runs courtesy of Barrera scoring on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly from
Cole Cravens.
Right-hander
Parker Schutte (Arlington/Lamar) (3-1) picked up the win out of the bullpen, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out one to help TLU clinch its fifth SCAC series of the year.
Southpaw
Jack Grames (Elgin/Elgin) punched out five across the first six frames. Grames allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks.
