Bulldogs Dominate SCAC Awards; Eleven Bulldogs Earn All-SCAC Honors

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran sophomore Noelani Ajel (Cibolo/Steele) was selected as SCAC Defender of the Year, TLU head coach Kerwin Johnson and staff earned SCAC Coaching Staff of the Year, and senior Klarissa Martinez (Houston/Incarnate Word Academy) was honored as SCAC Offensive Player of the Year as eleven Bulldogs earned All-SCAC honors.

Ajel, Martinez, senior forward Callie Brame (San Antonio/Churchill), sophomore midfielder Aliyah Fonseca (Harlingen/Harlingen), senior defender Jessica Robinson (Cibolo/Steele), and senior defender Ashlyn Suarez (Schertz/Clemens) were all selected to the All-SCAC first team.

Junior midfielder Natalia Cortez (Edinburg/Robert Vela), junior goalkeeper Alysa Marquez (Miami, FL/Dr. Michael Krop), and sophomore forward Lilly Noblett (San Antonio/Warren) received second team acclaim. Junior defender Caitlin Roach (Houston/Manvel) was named All-SCAC honorable mention. Additionally, midfielder Madison Herrera (San Antonio/Madison) received SCAC All-Freshman honors.

Ajel becomes TLU's first-ever conference Defensive Player of the Year in the 33-year history of the program. The Cibolo native started and played in 17 games, leading the Bulldogs to a conference-best nine shutouts and a 0.59 goals against average. Under her leadership, TLU has allowed an average of 10.2 shots per game. Ajel has earned All-SCAC honors in both of her first two seasons, earning All-SCAC Second Team and All-Freshman honors last season.

Johnson earned his first career All-SCAC coaching honor in his fourth season as the leader of the TLU women's soccer program after guiding TLU to the conference title with an unbeaten 9-0-1 SCAC record. Johnson's Bulldogs, who are currently on a 12-game unbeaten streak, compiled a 12-3-2 regular season record. TLU ranks first in the SCAC in goals scored (44), shutouts (9), shots (296) and shots on goal (161). This is the second SCAC Coach of the Year honor bestowed upon a TLU coach and third ever in program history, joining Mike Alderson (2006) and Larry Schaffer (2020-21).

Martinez earns TLU's fourth straight SCAC Offensive Player of the Year award, earning the honor for the first time in her career. The senior from Houston also earns her fourth all-conference nod, having been named to the first team for the second time in her career. She was a second team selection as a freshman and junior while earning first team honors as a sophomore. This season, Martinez leads the Bulldogs and the SCAC with a program record 11 assists and 23 points while ranking in a tie for fifth with six goals. Martinez currently sits at 23 career assists, a new program record and she is one more assist away from setting a new single-season record for assists. Martinez is just the sixth Bulldog in program history to eclipse 70 points in their career.

Callie Brame earns first team honors for the first time in her career after being All-SCAC honorable mention in each of the last two years. The San Antonio native has matched her career-high with five goals and has 20 points. Brame has also dished out a career-high 10 assists moving her career total to 22. She ranks eighth in the SCAC in goals and third in points. Brame ranks second all-time in program history in assists.

Fonseca makes her first appearance on an All-SCAC team following a breakout sophomore season. After not tallying a single point her freshman season, the Harlingen native scored seven goals and added an assist.

Robinson, from Cibolo, received first team honors for the second consecutive year. The Bulldogs captain has contributed to nine shutouts in 17 matches this season.

Suarez elevated to first team All-SCAC status for the first time in her career after being All-SCAC honorable mention as a junior a year ago and a second team honoree as a sophomore. The Schertz native has started every game of her TLU career, entering the postseason with 74 games played and started alongside Robinson, only trailing Martinez (75) amongst active TLU players. This season she has scored five goals with an assist.

Cortez earns her second consecutive second team honor. The Edinburg native has started all 17 games for the Bulldogs, contributing to nine shutouts and scoring a career-high four goals with an assist.

Marquez, from Miami, Florida, earns her highest honor of her career in 2025, earning second team honors after back-to-back honorable mention honors in 2023 and 2024. Marquez has totaled three individual shutouts and helped lead the Bulldogs to nine clean sheets on the season. Her .862 save percentage leads the SCAC and her 0.63 goals-against average ranks second in the SCAC.

Lilly Noblett makes her first appearance on the All-SCAC team, earning second team honors a year after being named to the All-SCAC Freshman team. Noblett, a San Antonio native, has started all 17 games, scoring a team-high eight goals with an assist.

With an honorable mention selection, Roach receives her third All-SCAC honor. The Houston native has scored one goal and dished out two assists.

Herrera is TLU's lone all-freshman team selection. The freshman from San Antonio has played in all 17 games with five starts. She has scored one goal and has one assist.
