SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran distance runners Mackenzie Combs (New Braunfels/Canyon), Aliyah Fonseca (Harlingen/Harlingen), and Audrey Malbrough (Selma/Veterans Memorial) have been named All-Academic Athletes by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their accolades in the classroom and on the track during the 2026 campaign, the USTFCCCA announced on Monday.
To be eligible for this honor, you had to have a cumulative 3.30 GPA. You also had to have finished in the top-50 of individual events or top-35 of relay events during the indoor or outdoor season.
All three athletes were a member of the program record breaking TLU Distance Medley Relay team that broke the school record for the second straight season with a time of 13:15.61 - eclipsing the previous record by over 30 seconds. Combs and Fonseca also had record breaking seasons individually with Combs breaking the TLU 3K, 5K and 10K records this season while Fonseca broke her own 3000m steeplechase record with a time of 11:56.46.
Texas Lutheran women's track and field also earned honors as a team, earning the Team All-Academic Award. Texas Lutheran finished with a 3.37 GPA as team. To earn the honor, teams must have a cumulative team GPA of at least a 3.10 on a 4.0 scale through the most recent semester/quarter.
