ABILENE, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran women's track and field program continued competition at the 2026 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships on Saturday at Wilford Moore Stadium on the campus of McMurry University. Texas Lutheran remains in second place in the women's standings with 70 points behind meet leader McMurry, who leads with 96 points. Saturday featured event finals in jumps, throws, and distance competition while sprint events had preliminary competition.
Saturday was highlighted by
Ciarah Garcia (Pleasanton/Pleasanton) winning the triple jump with a season-best mark of 11.33m (37' 02.25").
Kamilah Tanner (Killeen/Shoemaker) added four points with a mark of 10.35m (33' 11.50"), with her fifth place finish.
Garcia also ran the fastest time in Saturday's preliminary qualifiers in the 400m dash, clocking in at 58.44 seconds while Tanner ran a season-best time of 1:07.89 to qualify for Sunday's final in the 400m hurdles.
Mackenzie Combs (New Braunfels/Canyon) got the Bulldogs on the podium with a TLU record breaking performance in the 10K. Combs finished second in the event Saturday morning with a time of 39:21.52, breaking the previous record held by Keelin Treacy since 2011 (39:46.12).
Aliyah Fonseca (Harlingen/Harlingen) narrowly missed medaling for the second straight SCAC Championship in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing fourth with a time of 12:21.32.
Senior
Kirsten Smith (Yoakum/Yoakum) will leave the SCAC Championships with a medal for the second straight season. After earning bronze in the javelin throw last year, Smith finished third in the hammer throw on Saturday with a mark of 39.08m (128' 02").
Kenna Kubenka (Hallettsville/Hallettsville),
Madison Wright (San Antonio/Lee), and
Miala Harper all added to the team point total in the event.
Freshman dual-sport athlete
Laura Sierra (San Antonio/St. Anthony Catholic) earned the first podium appearance of her career on Saturday with a third place finish in the shot put with a mark of 11.73m (38' 06").
Kirsten Smith tossed a season-best 11.18m (36-08.25) to finish fifth and add four more points to the team tally.
Audrey Malbrough (Selma/Veterans Memorial) was the leading qualifier in the 800m run with a time of 2:20.14.
The Bulldogs continue their pursuit of a SCAC title on Sunday in Abilene, with the day's starting gun set to fire at 8 AM. The meet will be streamed on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
