SEGUIN, Texas -- No. 20 Texas Lutheran Baseball dropped the series against Centenary College, dropping both games of Thursday's doubleheader, 5-4 and 10-6 at Katt-Isbel Field.
The Bulldogs (19-9, 14-6 SCAC) and Gents will finish the series on Friday at 1 PM. Friday will act as Texas Lutheran's annual Mark Love game as well as Senior Day as the Bulldogs honor their 13-member senior class. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
Triston McGowan (Vidor/Vidor) started Game 1 and pitched 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in his ninth start of the season. He was in line for the win until the Gents two-run top of the eighth inning.
A
Kadyn Hall (La Grange/La Grange) sacrifice fly gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Chase Bourgeois (League City/Clear Falls) added a run to the lead in the fourth with a sacrifice fly of his own before an RBI single from Hall made it 3-0 in the fifth.
The Gents scored a pair of runs in the seventh to trim the lead to 3-2 before
Parker Schutte (Arlington/Lamar) was able to get TLU out of the inning.
The Bulldogs tacked on a run in the bottom of the seventh via an RBI sacrifice bunt from Hall.
Centenary battled back to score two runs in the eighth to tie the game 4-4. The Gents took the lead in the ninth and finished off the win with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.
In game two, Texas Lutheran held a 4-0 lead before Centenary put together a seven-run sixth inning to defeat the Bulldogs 10-6 to secure the series over the Bulldogs.
Chase Bourgeois and
Brayden Sprencel (Robstown/Calallen) each went 3-for-5 with two RBI.
Jack Grames (Elgin/Elgin) started and was charged with his second loss of the season, going 5.2 innings and giving up six unearned runs on nine hits.
Texas Lutheran scored four runs in the second starting with a sacrifice fly from
Aiden Spires (Fort Worth/Arlington Heights). An RBI single from Bourgeois doubled the Bulldogs lead before Sprencel tacked on two more with a two-RBI infield single.
Centenary had a seven-run sixth inning with all the runs coming with two outs to take a 7-4 lead and chase Grames out of the game. An RBI single from
Caleb Alfaro (San Antonio/St. Anthony Catholic) got a run back in the bottom of the inning to trim the lead to 7-5. Texas Lutheran came within a run in the eighth as an RBI single from Bourgeois shrunk the lead to 7-6 but the Bulldogs would strand two runners to end the inning.
The Gents tacked on three more insurance runs in the ninth inning to make the score 10-6.
