SAN ANGELO/SAN MARCOS, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran track and field team split up this weekend as a contingent of Bulldogs competed in the David Noble Relays hosted by Angelo State University over the course of two days in San Angelo while the TLU distance and throws teams competed in the Charles Austin Classic hosted by Texas State in meets featuring athletes from all three NCAA levels.
The highlight of the weekend was a record-breaking performance by sophomore tri-athlete
Aliyah Fonseca (Harlingen/Harlingen), who finished fifth overall and first amongst Division-III competitors in the 3000m steeplechase at the Charles Austin Classic with a program record time of 11:56.46. The time breaks her own program record time of 11:58.08 set just a year ago.
Zoe Gregg (Austin/Akins) finished tenth in the 800m run with a time of 2:41.46.
In throws,
Laura Sierra (San Antonio/St. Anthony Catholic), who earned SCAC Field Athlete of the Week honors last week, finished 11th overall and first amongst Division-III throwers in the shot put with a mark of 12.27m (40' 3.25").
Madison Wright (San Antonio/Lee) finished tenth overall and second amongst Division-III throwers in the discus throw with a mark of 36.72m (120' 6") and added a seventh place finish in the javelin throw with a mark of 32.23m (105' 9"). Finally,
Kirsten Smith (Yoakum/Yoakum) finished eighth overall and third amongst Division-III throwers in the hammer throw with a mark of 39.83m (130' 8").
At the David Noble Relays,
Ciarah Garcia (Pleasanton/Pleasanton) finished 20th to lead Division-III sprinters in the 200m dash with a time of 26.07 while adding a seventh place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 10.77m (35' 4").
The 4x100m relay team comprised of Garcia,
Sage Bartlett (Buda/Johnson),
Natalie Garcia (McAllen/McAllen), and
Mikayla Kidney (San Antonio/San Antonio Patriots) finished fifth with a time of 49.39 while the 4x400m relay team comprised of Bartlett,
Ciarah Garcia,
Katie Kostelnik (Hallettsville/Sacred Heart Catholic), and
Hazel Bowman (Killeen/Shoemaker) finished with a time of 4:00.93 to finish fourth.
