KERRVILLE, Texas -- No. 16 Texas Lutheran Baseball trailed 6-4 entering the bottom of the seventh but were unable to complete the comeback, dropping the series opener 9-5 to Schreiner Friday evening at Bob Henry Field in Kerrville.
The Bulldogs (17-7, 12-4 SCAC) will look to bounce back in tomorrow's doubleheader with first pitch scheduled for 12 & 3Â pm.
Brayden Sprencel (Robstown/Calallen) got the start on the mound and pitched two innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He left with the game tied 2-2.
TLU scored first as
Chase Bourgeois (League City/Clear Falls) led off the game with a double before scoring on a Schreiner error. An RBI single from
Adam Peavy (Houston/Memorial) tacked on another run as the Bulldogs took an early 2-0 lead.
Schreiner cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning before tying the game at two in the second.
The Mountaineers put together a big fourth inning, taking the lead with four runs on four hits off of
Isaiah Ramirez (San Antonio/Marshall).
A two-RBI single from
Cooper Jen (Kyle/Hays) cut the lead to 6-4 in the sixth but the Mountaineers got a run right back in the bottom of the inning.
Schreiner extended its lead to 9-4 in the seventh with two more runs allowed by Ramirez.
A home run from
Caleb Small (Round Rock/Gateway College Preparatory) in the eighth brought the game to its final score of 9-5.
