LAKE CHARLES, LA -- The Texas Lutheran women's track and field team opened its indoor season Friday at the McNeese Indoor Invite at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The meet was mostly comprised of Division-I and Division-II teams with LeTourneau, Southwestern, and Texas Lutheran representing Division-III.
After a record breaking cross country season in the fall,
Mackenzie Combs (New Braunfels/Canyon) opened indoor season with yet another record breaking performance. Combs shattered the TLU indoor 3K record previously held by Ashley Rynard (10:48.63, 2020) with a time of 10:28.68 to finish fourth overall and first amongst Division-III runners.
The TLU 4x400m relay team comprised of
Ciarah Garcia (Pleasanton/Pleasanton),
Sage Bartlett (Buda/Johnson),
Mikayla Kidney (San Antonio/SA Patriots), and
Katie Kostelnik (Hallettsville/Sacred Heart Catholic) finished second behind McNeese State at 4:12.70.
Garcia also added a third place finish in the triple jump with a final mark of 10.54m (34' 7").
Freshman
Sophia Houston (Austin/Anderson) finished fourth in the 55m hurdles with a time of 10.47 seconds.
Bartlett finished eighth in the 200m dash with a time of 27.45 seconds while Kidney joined her in the top ten at 27.67 secondsto finish tenth.
Audrey Malbrough (Selma/Veterans Memorial) finished eighth in the 600m run with a time of 1:48.10 while Kostelnik finished right behind her in ninth at 1:48.47.
In throws, Kenna Kubenka (Hallettsville/Hallettsville) finished seventh in the open section of the indoor weight throw with a mark of 12.60m (41' 4.25") while Emagen Styra (Nordheim/Nordheim) finish eighth with the same mark.
