WINDCREST, Texas -- Texas Lutheran men's and women's cross country took on the UIW XC Invitational hosted by Incarnate Word at Windcrest Golf Club Friday morning in a Division-I and Division-II heavy field. Sophomore Jonas Martinez (Edinburg/Homeschool) led the TLU men, while junior Mackenzie Combs (New Braunfels/Canyon) paced the TLU women.
The day started off with the men's 4-mile run, where Texas Lutheran would finish ninth. Martinez led the Bulldogs with a 28th place finish - third among Division-III runners - with a time of 20:42.9. Prince Medrano (Seguin/Seguin) tallied a 52nd place finish with a time of 21:08.5. Lucas Falcon (69th) (Victoria/Victoria East), Angel Miguel Hernandez (83rd) (Luling/Luling), and Adrian De Los Santos (89th) (San Antonio/Holy Cross) rounded out the top five.
On the women' side, Mackenzie Combs (New Braunfels/Canyon) was the first Bulldog to cross the finish line in the 129 runner field, finishing 29th with a time of 19:04.6 in the women's 5K. The time made for third among Division-III runners. Sophomore Audrey Malbrough (Selma/Veterans Memorial) was the second to finish for Texas Lutheran, placing 67th, with Aliyah Fonseca (Harlingen/Harlingen) following close behind with a 73rd place finish. Hope Dominguez (84th) (Alpine/Alpine) and Kaylen Serrano (103rd) (Sinton/Sinton) wrapped the Bulldogs' pack as they finished 10th out of 13 schools.
Texas Lutheran's cross country teams will travel to Hillsboro, Texas, for the Hill Country Classic on Sept. 26.
