CLINTON, MS -- The Texas Lutheran men's cross country program competed in the Watson Collegiate Classic hosted by Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi, Friday morning in what proved to be a record breaking day amongst a field of 200-plus runners across NCAA Divisions I, II, and III. The men placed sixth as a team, second amongst Division-III schools, and ahead of numerous Division I and II schools.
Jonas Martinez (Edinburg/Homeschool) led the charge for the Bulldogs, finishing with a time of 25:56.3, which was nearly five seconds faster than the previous 8K school record set by former Bulldog Carlos Cura in 2022. Martinez would finish 20th overall and fourth amongst Division-III runners.
Behind Martinez was
Angel Miguel Hernandez (Luling/Luling) who finished 31st at 26:15.96.
Lucas Falcon (37th) (Victoria/Victoria East),
Prince Medrano (67th) (Seguin/Seguin), and
Adrian De Los Santos (80th) (San Antonio/Holy Cross) rounded out the top five. Falcon (26:22.41), Medrano (27:04.79), and De Los Santos (27:33.83) all set new personal records that cracked the top 15 8K times in program history.
Texas Lutheran shifts its focus to the 2025 SCAC Championships that will be hosted by St. Thomas at Prairie View A&M in the Houston area on Nov. 1.
