CLAREMONT, CA -- The Texas Lutheran cross country program was led by
Jonas Martinez's (Edinburg/Homeschool) 29th place finish on Saturday morning to earn the highest NCAA Regional finish in program history at the NCAA West Regional in Claremont, California.
The 29th place finish earned Martinez the first All-Region honor in program history while his 8K time of 26:13.8 is the fastest in a regional in program history.
Prince Medrano (Seguin/Seguin) joined Martinez in the top 86 of the 172-athlete field, finishing 84th (27:16.6).
As a program, the men finished 17th in a 23 team field.
The women were led by
Audrey Malbrough (Selma/Veterans Memorial) finishing 81st at 24:34.5 while
Aliyah Fonseca (Harlingen/Harlingen) followed in 88th place (24:59.5) to finish in the top-100 of the 161-athlete race. The Bulldogs did not travel enough runners to register a team score.
At-large bids for individual athletes for the NCAA Championships will be announced on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 2 PM CT on ncaa.com.
