SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran safety
Justin Navarro (Edinburg/Robert Vela) has been named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Defensive Player of the Week following his effort in the Bulldogs' 54-10 win over Lyon College, the announcement was made Monday evening by the league office.
Navarro, who earned his first SCAC weekly honor, finished with six tackles. Navarro also forced his first career fumble and returned his second interception of the season 18 yards.
Navarro played a key role in limiting the Scots offense to 65 yards in the first half and not allowing a touchdown until the fourth quarter.
Navarro is the second Bulldog this season to earn SCAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Texas Lutheran will play in the first ever SCAC Championship game next week at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, Arkansas as they pursue their second straight and fifth SCAC championship in program history. The Bulldogs will face McMurry in a match up between the 2024 SCAC Co-Champions on Nov. 15 at 8 PM at the former home of the Arkansas Razorbacks.
