SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran sophomore defensive back Owen Garcia (Austin/Connally) has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in the Bulldogs 55-27 win over Centenary (LA) last Saturday night at Atkins Field in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Garcia recorded a career-high 12 tackles, including nine solo stops and 3.5 tackles for loss, in the win. This marks the second career SCAC weekly honor for Garcia.

A native of Austin, Texas, Garcia ranks sixth in the SCAC with 33 tackles this season and seventh in tackles per game (6.6). His 12 tackles led all SCAC players in the opening week of conference play.

The Bulldogs return to Seguin to continue SCAC play on Saturday, Oct. 18, when they host Hendrix College at 1 PM. Saturday will be packed with festivities as it will act as the annual Breast Cancer Awareness and Military Appreciation games as well as Senior Day with the Bulldogs honoring a 20-member senior class.
