SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran cross country teams opened the 2026 season at the UIW Cross Country Twilight under the lights in San Antonio Tuesday night.
The women's 4K started the night as senior
Mackenzie Combs (New Braunfels/Canyon)Â finished as the team's leader with a 20th place finish as she finished the 4K course in 15:04.41. The time was fourth amongst Division-III runners. Freshman
Brooklyn Van Niekerk (Magnolia/Tomball Memorial) was the second to finish for Texas Lutheran, placing 32nd, with
Audrey Malbrough (Selma/Veterans Memorial) (61st),
Hope Dominguez (Alpine/Alpine) (64th), and
MJ Ellis (Leander/Rouse) (70th), rounding out the top five.
The men's 6K capped the night as Texas Lutheran would finish eighth as a team. Freshman
Lukas Cruz (Willis/Willis) led the Bulldogs pack with a 73rd place finish at 21:39.68. Rounding out the scorers for the Bulldogs were
Roberto Espinoza (San Antonio/Harlan),
Angel Miguel Hernandez (Luling/Luling),
Brent Klibert (League City/Clear Falls), and
Christian Jardon (Sinton/Sinton) with finishes of 75th, 77th, 82nd, and 87th respectively.
Texas Lutheran's cross country teams will return to the San Antonio area for the UIW XC Invitational on Sept. 12.
