#RV Texas Lutheran Leaps Past 'Roos on Senior Day, 73-60

SEGUIN, Texas -- #RV TLU Women's Basketball (15-5, 10-1 SCAC) won its senior day matchup against Austin College (11-9, 8-3 SCAC) behind an efficient second halves from Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) and Davi'Yanna Jones (San Antonio/Stevens). The Bulldogs won their penultimate home game 73-60 over the 'Roos on Saturday night.

Sansano led all scorers with 21 points in the game; the point guard had 16 points in the second half, shooting a lights-out 10-for-11 from the free throw line while finishing 5-of-10 from the field. Seniors Hannah Gallegos (San Antonio/Harlan) (15 points) and Sarahi Jones (Los Fresnos/Los Fresnos) (11 points) joined Sansano in double figures. The Bulldogs set a new season-high for blocks defensively with six, a career-high five came from Sarahi Jones along with a team-high eight rebounds.

The Bulldogs finished +4 in the turnover department (15-11) and outscored Austin College 19-9 in points off turnovers. Sansano led the way defensively with five steals on the night.

After falling into an early 5-0 deficit, an and-one from Hannah Gallegos got the Bulldogs on the board. The first quarter was very nip and tuck but would see TLU leave with a 13-10 lead entering the second quarter. It was a total team effort in the first as five of the Bulldogs 11 active players scored in the quarter.

The second quarter was back and forth just like the first as the Bulldogs could never fully separate from the 'Roos. TLU outscored Austin College by three to carry a six-point lead into the halftime break. Gallegos took over in the second quarter, scoring 12 of her career-high 15 points in the quarter on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting to keep the Bulldogs ahead of their competition.

The Bulldogs came out flat in the third quarter as the 'Roos were able to outscore the Bulldogs 15-14 in the period despite seven points in the quarter from Sansano.

The fourth quarter was the Jones and Sansano show as Sansano and Davi'Yanna Jones combined for 18 points on 5-of-11 shooting while Sansano - one of the nation's best free throw shooters - would go 7-of-8 from the free throw line down the stretch. Both played all ten minutes in the fourth to close it out for the Bulldogs as they would lead by as many as 15 points in the final period.

Prior to Saturday's game, Texas Lutheran recognized its five player senior class: Gallegos, Sansano, Sarahi Jones, Angelina Sotelo (San Marcos/San Marcos), and Emerald St. Laurent (The Woodlands/Oak Ridge).

TLU returns to action on Sunday evening against Dallas in the final home game of the season. Tip-off is set for 4 PM. The game will be streamed on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
