SHREVEPORT, LA -- #RV Texas Lutheran women's basketball (14-5, 9-1 SCAC) cruised to a 29-point win against Centenary (3-16, 2-8 SCAC) inside the Gold Dome Tuesday night.
Davi'Yanna Jones (San Antonio/Stevens) and
Jaidyn Treviño (Austin/Akins) led the way for the Bulldogs; Jones had 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting and five rebounds in 15 minutes, Treviño finished with 14 points off the bench and added three steals in the win.
The Bulldogs won the point scoring battle 32-20 and outran the Ladies in transition, finishing with a 14-2 advantage on the break in the win.
Senior
Sarahi Jones (Los Fresnos/Los Fresnos) flirted with another double-double - joining Jones and Treviño in double figures with 12 points and nine rebounds. Guard
Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, three rebounds, six assists, and three steals while
Noelani Ajel (Cibolo/Steele) added nine points and seven rebounds.
The Bulldogs forced a turnover on the Ladies opening possession leading to a fast break layup from Sansano. The two teams would trade empty possessions before a layup from
Hannah Gallegos (San Antonio/Harlan) put the Bulldogs up four.
It would be
Sarahi Jones and
Jaidyn Treviño that would lead the Bulldogs entering the first quarter break as Jones finished with seven points while Treviño cashed a pair of threes to finish with six points.
Davi'Yanna Jones would take her turn in the second quarter, scoring on the opening possession for the first of her team-high eight points in the period. Centenary would outscore Texas Lutheran 18-13 in the second quarter but the Bulldogs would lead 35-29 at the halftime break.
Turnovers plagued the opening possessions of the second half before
Davi'Yanna Jones started things for the Bulldogs in the second half, scoring at the rim yet again via an assist from Sansano. Texas Lutheran would take off from there - going on a 27-7 run across the third quarter as their lead ballooned to 26 points.
Davi'Yanna Jones and
Noelani Ajel led the Bulldogs with seven and six points respectively.
The Bulldogs' second unit would play for the entire fourth quarter as the Bulldogs cruised to yet another wire-to-wire victory on Tuesday.
Laura Sierra (San Antonio/St. Anthony Catholic) led the Bulldogs with four points in the fourth.
The Bulldogs return to Memorial Gymnasium on Saturday, Feb. 7 to take on the Austin College 'Roos. Tip-off is set for 6 PM. Saturday will also act as Senior Night as the Bulldogs honor their class of five seniors prior to tip-off. The game will be streamed on FloCollege.
