Career Nights from Wallace, Garcia Leads Bulldogs to 86-81 Victory Over Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas -- Texas Lutheran played the role of spoiler on Friday night as they picked up an 86-81 wire-to-wire victory over Schreiner in Kerrville. With the win, the Bulldogs eliminated the Mountaineers from SCAC Tournament contention.

Mason Wallace (San Antonio/Judson) scored a career-high 31 points while matching his season-high with 11 rebounds and dishing out four assists. The career performance comes in his penultimate game with the Bulldogs as he secured his second 30-point game and his third double-double of the season. With the 30-point double-double performance, Wallace became the first Bulldog with a 30-point double-double since Sebastian Andrade scored 38 points and grabbed ten rebounds against Austin College on Feb. 29, 2020. It is his sixth game of 25 or more points this season.

Freshman Aaron Garcia (San Antonio/Holy Cross) also had a career-night with his first collegiate game with 20-plus points. The San Antonio native finished with a career-high 22 points while corralling six rebounds and dishing out four assists while adding two blocks. Sophomore Jonah Johnson (Cibolo/Steele) was the final Bulldog in double figures with ten points off the bench.

Texas Lutheran finished Friday's game shooting a scorching 54.2 percent from the field and 47.6 percent from beyond the arc.

TLU took a 48-41 lead into halftime after going 19-of-32 from the field with Wallace and Garcia already in double figures. Wallace had 17 of his 31 points in the first half while Garcia added 14 points of his own. Jonah Johnson also added eight points, including making two of his three attempts from beyond the arc. TLU started the game on a 15-3 run with Wallace scoring ten of the points and being responsible for 13 of them.

Despite a spirited effort from the Mountaineers with their season hanging in the balance, the Bulldogs were simply too much - leading by as many as 16 points. Wallace added 14 more points in the second half while Garcia added eight of his own.

Texas Lutheran concludes its season on Sunday, Feb. 22 against the McMurry University War Hawks in Abilene. Tip-off is set for 12 PM with the game being streamed on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
