ABILENE, Texas -- In his final game as a Bulldog, senior Mason Wallace (San Antonio/Judson) scored a career-high 33 points and grabbed three rebounds but it was not enough as Texas Lutheran suffered a 101-85 loss to McMurry Sunday afternoon to close the 2025-26 regular season.
Wallace closed his career with back-to-back 30-plus point games, becoming the first Bulldog to do so since joining the SCAC. On Sunday, Wallace eclipsed the 1,100 point mark to finish his career with 1,101 points - finishing 31st in program history.
Seniors Semaj Edwards (Lanham, MD/Oak Hill) and Darren Ford Jr. (San Antonio/Veterans Memorial) finished with ten and eight points respectively in their final games as Bulldogs with Ford Jr. grabbing a career-high nine rebounds. Carter Lewis (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) and Jonah Johnson (Cibolo/Steele) also added eight points while senior point guard Isaac Orozco (Helotes/O'Connor) finished with three points in his final game.
Rebounding and free throws dictated Sunday's contest as McMurry won the battle on the glass 39-27 and the War Hawks made 24-of-28 attempts at the free throw line while TLU finished 12-of-20.
Mason Wallace scored the first basket of the game for either team, making his first three point attempt of the afternoon.
The two teams traded baskets before a War Hawks 23-1 run over the course of two media timeouts gave McMurry a lead they'd never relinquish. The War Hawks led the Bulldogs 45-27 at halftime.
While Texas Lutheran shot nearly 60 percent from the field in the second half, so did the host War Hawks while doubling the Bulldogs converting at the free throw line. TLU was able to cut the lead down to six with seven minutes remaining but the War Hawks pulled away to lead by as many as 19 points down the stretch, capped by a half court buzzer beater to end the season for both squads.
The Bulldogs - a team picked to finish seventh in the preseason poll - conclude the 2025-26 season with a 10-15 record, going 5-11 in the SCAC to claim tenth place in the conference in the regular season. The Bulldogs will graduate five seniors - Semaj Edwards, Darren Ford Jr., Isaac Orozco, Mason Wallace, and assistant coach Ben Coulombe '25. We thank them for all of their contributions to the Texas Lutheran men's basketball program.
