SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran claimed two out of three of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's (SCAC) weekly honors as linebacker Diego Avila (Allen/Allen) was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week, while kicker Jack Nelson (Austin/Bowie) was recognized as the Special Teams Player of the Week.

Both players, who are taking home weekly SCAC honors for the first time in their respective careers, were instrumental in Texas Lutheran's 48-3 win at Lyon on Saturday.

Avila tied for the team lead with five tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss, which were both season-highs. Avila has 21 tackles on the season with 2.0 tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks.

Nelson made both of his field goal attempts, both coming in the second quarter. He also made all six of his extra points. Nelson first connected from 34 yards out midway through the second quarter, putting the Bulldogs lead at 24-3. He then made a 30-yarder with 16 seconds remaining in the half. Nelson is 5-for-7 on field goals in his first season with the Bulldogs, he is also 16-of-18 on extra points for 31 points.

Avila is the fourth different Bulldog to earn SCAC Defensive Player of the Week honors in 2026 while Nelson is the second Special Teams Player of the Week after the Bulldogs also won the honor last week.
