SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran defensive back Malik Johnson (Paris/Paris) has been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week following his record-breaking, standout performance against Lyon College, the publication announced late Monday night.

This is Johnson's second time being named to the national Team of the Week this season.

Johnson tallied a career-best three interceptions, including two pick-sixes in the Bulldogs 34-12 win over Lyon this past weekend, which helped Johnson achieve the following milestones:

• second player to intercept three passes in a single-game this season
• first player in TLU's NCAA history to have two pick-sixes in a single-game
• broke the single-season pick-six record previously held by Kyle McNally (3, 2011).

Johnson leads all of college football across all levels in total interceptions (6) and is second in interceptions per game (1.2) this season. Johnson has recorded an interception in three of the Bulldogs five games so far this season. Johnson has quickly moved up TLU's all-time interception list, currrently sitting at fourth all-time in career interceptions (7) in TLU's NCAA history.

Johnson returned his first interception 43-yards in the first half before returning his second interception a career-high 74 yards in the second half. Johnson picked off the Scots a third and final time three minutes later for his second interception of the third quarter and third total of the game.

Following a bye week next Saturday, Johnson and Texas Lutheran will prepare to open SCAC play as the Hendrix College Warriors travel to Seguin on Oct. 17 in what will be a highly anticipated matchup following last year's instant classic. Kickoff is set for 1 PM. The game will be broadcast on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
