SEGUIN, Texas --
Mason Wallace (San Antonio/Judson),
Teddy Tapken (Austin/Lake Travis),
Aaron Garcia (San Antonio/Holy Cross), and
Semaj Edwards (Lanham, MD/Oak Hill) combined for 70 points in TLU's 102-90 victory over Schreiner Friday night at Memorial Gymnasium. With the win, the Bulldogs ended a five-game losing streak to the Mountaineers that dated back to February 2023.
Wallace and Garcia finished with career-highs while Edwards finished in double figures for the twelfth time in 14 games this season.
The 6-for-3 senior dished out a career-high nine assists while adding a team-high 22 points, going 8-of-12 from the field. 2-of-4 from three, and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Wallace has scored 20+ points in three of his last four outings. He also had four rebounds and two steals.
Garcia finished with a career-high 16 points off the bench as the freshman finished with 16 points to go along with five rebounds and two assists. He went 6-of-10 from the field, 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and nailing both of his free throw attempts.
Teddy Tapken added 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting while dishing out four assists. For the seventh time in his last eight games,
Semaj Edwards found himself in double figures as the senior finished with 14 points and two steals.
Kris Jones (Port Aransas/Port Aransas) was the final Bulldog in double figures with 11 points, going 3-for-6 from beyond the arc.
Texas Lutheran finished Friday's game shooting 57.6 percent from the field and 44 percent from beyond the arc. Texas Lutheran has shot 51.8 percent as a team over the course of its last five games.
TLU took a 41-34 lead into halftime after going 17-of-35 from the field with Wallace and Tapken already in double figures. Wallace had 12 of his 22 points in the first half while Tapken added a team-high 14 points of his own. Wallace already had four of his team-high nine assists. Texas Lutheran led by as many as eight points in the opening half as the Mountaineers hung around in the first half with an opportunity to rally in the second half.
Despite the Mountaineers outrebounding the Buldlogs 29-15 in the second half, the Bulldogs would cruise through the second half - leading by as many as 16 points and the lead never dropping below double digits in the final 11 minutes. Garcia and Edwards led the Bulldogs with twelve points each in the second half while Wallace added ten more points.
