Sansano Posts Triple-Double as #RV TLU Overwhelms Ozarks (AR)

SEGUIN, Texas -- Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) recorded the first triple-double of her career as #RV Texas Lutheran stomped Ozarks (AR) 85-61 Friday night at Memorial Gymnasium.

Sansano finished with 23 points, 11 rebounds, ten assists, and six steals in the Bulldogs' dominant win over the Eagles. The 11 rebounds matched her career-high while the ten assists and six steals are new career-highs for the senior.

While the Texas Lutheran history of triple-doubles is not well documented, the triple-double is the first since Tara Molina finished with 13 points, 12 rebounds and ten assists on January 26, 2019 vs. Trinity. It is the third triple-double since the Bulldogs joining the SCAC and since the program becoming an NCAA institution (2000-01) with Karisa Cantu also notching a triple-double against Schreiner on January 4, 2014. All three instances have come at Memorial Gymnasium in Seguin. It is the 13th triple-double in NCAA Division-III women's basketball this season.

She racked up 12 points, five rebounds, six assists, and four steals in the first half as TLU took a 51-25 edge into the locker room.

Sansano was officially on triple, and even quadruple-double watch by the end of the third quarter. She had 17 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and five steals entering the final frame.

Sansano grabbed her tenth defensive rebound to secure her first double-double of the season with 4:56 remaining and extended the TLU lead to 27 as she found Davi'Yanna Jones (San Antonio/Stevens) with 3:27 remaining to secure the triple-double.

TLU, now 3-0 in SCAC play for the third time in five years under head coach Troy Patterson, played one of its most complete games of the season.

Offensively, the Bulldogs dished out a season-high 22 assists while shooting 29-of-59 (49.2 percent) from the field and knocking down 11-of-25 attempts from beyond the arc, marking the most threes in a single-game this season. TLU finished with a 76 percent assist rate on Friday night matching their season-high set in their last outing against Concordia (TX).

Sansano was one of three players to score in double figures for the Bulldogs.

Sarahi Jones (Los Fresnos/Los Fresnos) paired 14 points with seven rebounds, finishing 5-of-9 from the field. Hannah Gallegos (San Antonio/Harlan) tallied a career-high ten points and dished out a season-high three assists.

TLU won the rebounding and turnover battles by narrow margins and held the Eagles to 35.7 percent shooting on the night.

TLU led for all but 31 seconds Friday night. After trailing 4-2 in the first, a pair of free throws from Sansano and a three from Jaidyn Treviño (Austin/Akins) gave the Bulldogs a 7-4 lead that they would never relinquish.

The Bulldogs assisted on 15 of their 17 made shots from the field and were 6-for-11 from distance entering the locker room. Sarahi Jones and Sansano scored 12 points each in the first half.

TLU scored 17 points in the third and fourth quarters to close out the game with their lead never falling below 23 points.

The Bulldogs continue their five-game SCAC home stand on Saturday, January 10 against Hendrix at Memorial Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 6 PM. The game will be streamed on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
