#RV Bulldogs Annihilate Warriors Behind Huge Second and Third Quarters

SEGUIN, Texas -- The #RV Texas Lutheran women's basketball team improved to 9-4 (4-0 SCAC) with an 89-56 win over Hendrix College (7-5, 3-1 SCAC) Saturday night at Memorial Gymnasium.

Senior Sarahi Jones (Los Fresnos/Los Fresnos) led all scorers with a career-high 21 points (8-9 FG, 5-6 3PT) and finished with a team-high seven rebounds. Three Bulldogs got into double digits: Sarahi Jones, Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) (17 PTS, 7-11 FG), and Emerald St. Laurent (The Woodlands/Oak Ridge) who finished with a career-high 14 points (7-9 FG).

The Bulldogs assisted on 28 of the 36 made baskets Saturday; Lauren Sansano, fresh off a triple-double on Friday, had a game-high eight helpers with just one turnover to her name.

Jones, who entered Saturday with just one made three so far this season, lit it up from long range, finishing with a career-high five made 3-pointers in six attempts. As a team, the Bulldogs made a season-high 14 threes on Saturday, finishing one three short of matching the program record for threes made in a game that was set just a season ago.

Hendrix, who entered the weekend ranked 13th in Division-III in rebounds per game (49.4), lost the battle on the glass to the Bulldogs, 33-31 - holding the Warriors to a season low. Texas Lutheran also outscored Hendrix 32-14 in the paint.

Jones started the scoring for the Bulldogs, connecting from beyond the arc to set the tone for Saturday's affairs. Sansano followed her lead on the next possession, hitting a three to put TLU up 6-2. The Bulldogs immediately force a bad-pass turnover on the other side, starting with a strong defensive front. The Warriors tied the game 11-all before a pair of layups from Sansano and Noelani Ajel (Cibolo/Steele) helped the Bulldogs carry a 15-14 lead into the second quarter. Jones and Sansano ended the period with five points each.

The Bulldogs went on a 22-7 run over the course of the second quarter as their lead grew to as many as 16 points. The dominant second quarter was sparked by the TLU bench as a number of starters found themselves in foul trouble. Emerald St. Laurent led all scorers in the quarter with eight points on 4-of-5 shooting while freshman Jessietheresa Brisky (Los Fresnos/Los Fresnos) stepped in to hit back-to-back backbreaking threes in the final minute of the half as the Bulldogs carried a 16-point, 37-21, lead into the halftime break.

The Bulldogs continued to pour it on in the third quarter as Sansano and Jones combined for 20 of the Bulldogs 27 points as TLU led by as many as 34 points in the quarter as they shot a scorching 73.3 percent from the field.

The Bulldogs didn't cool off in the fourth despite clearing the bench for all 12 active members of the TLU roster to see action as they shot 66.7 percent in the final quarter as the two teams traded buckets despite the massive TLU lead. Jones and St. Laurent carried the Bulldogs home in the fourth with six points each in the final quarter as they cruised to the 89-56 victory.

The Bulldogs continue their conference home slate on Friday, January 16 against Schreiner at Memorial Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM. The game will be streamed on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
