SHERMAN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran rallied in the second half to defeat Austin College, 3-1, in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams. Aliyah Fonseca (Harlingen/Harlingen) recorded her first collegiate goals and first career brace to lead the Bulldogs to victory.

Fonseca gave TLU (3-3, 1-0 SCAC) an early lead with a goal in the 10th minute, finding the back of the net following a corner kick from Callie Brame (San Antonio/Churchill).

Austin College (3-2-1, 0-1 SCAC) tied the match in the 27th minute as the match would enter halftime with a tie 1-all.

At 52:13, Brame came through with the go-ahead goal, taking a pass from Klarissa Martinez (Houston/Incarnate Word Academy) and scoring past the Austin College goalkeeper for the first goal of the season. With their assists Friday night, Brame and Martinez tied Sioned Kirkpatrick as well as former teammates Ana Parra and Alyssa Simien for sixth all-time in program history with 15 career assists.

The Bulldogs would maintain their one goal advantage until Fonseca would take on the 'Roos defense by herself to tack on her second goal of the night in the 82nd minute and bring the game to its final score of 3-1.

TLU held a large advantage in shots, outshooting the 'Roos, 18-9, with four saved by the 'Roos. Alysa Marquez (Miami, FL/Dr. Michael Krop) recorded three saves.

Texas Lutheran will conclude their eight match road trip on Sunday, Sept. 28, as the Bulldogs travel to Longview to face the LeTourneau Yellowjackets. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 PM. The match will be streamed on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
