SEGIN, Texas --
Belle Asbury, a sophomore on the Texas Lutheran women's golf team, has been selected as the SCAC Character and Community Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week beginning with Sept. 22.
Â
The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.
Â
Belle Asbury made her presence felt on the golf course as a freshman, leading the Bulldogs in nearly every tournament last season as one of the best young golfers in the SCAC.
Â
The sport of golf isn't just something the San Antonio native does as a hobby, it's a way of life and a sport she has done her best to give back to even at a young age.
Â
Since she was 15 years old, Asbury has spent her summers volunteering as a coach at Olympia Hills Junior Golf Camps where she helps kids explore golf as a sport while having a lot of fun.
Â
"It's a great camp because it introduces young kids to the game, who normally would've never thought to try it," said Asbury. "It also teaches more than golf as it also teaches life skills such as resilience and integrity. It's a very special camp to me because when I was a little girl I would attend camp as a camper. I remember the coaches being very influential in shaping my love for the game. So I always try to be a coach that kids will remember forever."
Â
Asbury continued to grow on the course over the course of her first season with the Bulldogs and is looking forward to the beginning of the 2025-26 season Sept. 29 at the Lyon College Tournament in Batesville, Arkansas. While she shifts her focus back to her own personal golf journey, at her core she tries to remember her journey in discovering her love of the game of golf and does her best to grow the game off the course in her free time.
