BELTON, Texas -- Texas Lutheran's winning streak came to an end after a 1-0 neutral site loss to 7th-ranked Misericordia on Sunday afternoon at Cru Soccer Field on the campus of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Misericordia (6-0) scored the game's only goal in this first-time ever match up in the 78th minute. TLU totaled four shots in the game but none were on target.
Texas Lutheran (2-1) took three shots in the first half in what was a competitive opening 45 minutes of play. The Cougars had numerous chances but were turned away by TLU goalkeeper
Alysa Marquez (Miami, FL/Dr. Michael Krop) and the TLU back line.
Both defenses held strong in the second half as the game's intensity matched the increasingly hot Sunday afternoon heat with neither team looking to give any ground.
It would be All-Region midfielder Olivia Mansikas who would break through for Misericordia, breaking the scoreless draw in the 78th minute.
TLU's lone shot to equalize came from
Lilly Noblett (San Antonio/Warren) in the 85th minute but her shot skied high and to the left off target.
Marquez finished with three saves in the match that included a couple of difficult saves in the first half.
The Bulldogs will look to rebound next Saturday, Sept. 20, at Hardin-Simmons. Kickoff is set for 5 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
