KERRVILLE, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Baseball exploded with a pair of big innings and rolled to a 13-1 win over Schreiner on Friday at Mountaineer Field.
The Bulldogs (22-15, 15-13) will look to end the 2025 season on a high note as they attempt to clinch their final series against the Mountaineers on Saturday with the doubleheader slated to have a 12 PM first pitch. Diego Vinton (Richmond/George Ranch) had his best outing of the season, pitching a seven-inning complete game and striking out six batters. He issued only one free pass and only allowed one run to pick up his first win of the season.
The game was tied 1-1 before Texas Lutheran unleashed a five-run fourth inning that saw them score the five runs on three hits. The Bulldogs followed that with an emphatic seven-run seventh to go up 13-1 and to secure the run-rule victory.
Chance Greene (Round Rock/Stony Point) had a huge day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run, six RBI and two runs scored. Chase Bourgeois (League City/Clear Falls) was 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored and Caleb Small (Round Rock/Gateway College Preparatory) had a career day going 4-for-5 with two doubles and two triples with an RBI and three runs scored. The two triple performance is the ninth in program history with the last occurence coming from Tyler Cauley in 2019 against Schreiner. As a team, the Bulldogs hit three triples on Friday matching the program record for triples in a single-game with the last occurence coming last season against Vermont State Castleton.
Texas Lutheran got on the board in the first inning after a Bourgeois sacrifice fly before the Mountaineers responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. That was the only run the Bulldogs allowed in the game.
The Bulldogs blew the game open with a five spot in the fourth, where they sent nine men to the plate. The inning started with a pair of walks before a Schreiner error led to the first run of the inning before Chance Greene added three more runs on a three-run homer. An RBI single from Bourgeois scored Caleb Small for the final run of the inning.
Texas Lutheran tacked on seven more runs on seven hits and one error in the seventh to go up 13-1. An RBI single from Bourgeois scored Small before Bourgeois scored on a wild pitch. The Bulldogs loaded the bases with two outs for Chance Greene who hit a bases clearing double. Greene scored on a Schreiner error before Caleb Small hit an RBI triple to cross the Bulldogs final run of the evening.
