KERRVILLE, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Baseball swept their Saturday doubleheader against Schreiner with scores of 10-4 and 14-0 at Mountaineer Field.
Texas Lutheran scored in the first three innings and never looked back, cruising to a 10-4 win over the Mountaineers in game one.
The Bulldogs notched seven runs over the course of the first three innings to open on Saturday as four different players drove in a run in Saturday's opener.
Mason Goudeau (Liberty/Liberty) plated three runs for the third time this season, highlighted by a two-RBI single in the eighth.
Caleb Small (Round Rock/Gateway College Preparatory) reached safely in 4-of-6 plate appearances with two doubles and scored once.
Meanwhile, Tyler Helpenstill (Pearland/Lutheran South) drove in a pair of runs.
On the mound, senior Nolan McInvale (Poth/Poth) (5-3) allowed three runs over six innings, limiting the Mountaineers to five hits. McInvale recorded five strikeouts and issued five free passes in his final collegiate game.
The Bulldogs bullpen held it down for McInvale as Isaiah Ramirez (San Antonio/Marshall) earned the three-inning save in relief, his second of the season. Ramirez allowed one run on three hits while striking out two.
In game two, Triston McGowan (Vidor/Vidor) tossed a complete game shutout for his sixth win of the season. McGowan ends his season with a team-high 59 strikeouts following a four strikeout performance on Saturday.
Kash Durkin (Liberty Hill/Liberty Hill) had yet another exceptional performance going 3-for-6 with a home run, two RBI, and three runs scored while Adam Peavy (Houston/Memorial) went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
An RBI groundout from Chase Bourgeois (League City/Clear Falls) and a solo home run from Kash Durkin got the Bulldogs on the board.
A two-RBI triple from Peavy doubled the Bulldogs lead in the fifth.
An RBI double from Tyler Helpenstill and a Schreiner error led to three more Bulldog runs in the eighth before the Bulldogs scored seven more runs in the ninth.
Chase Bourgeois started the massive final inning with a one-out triple, his eighth of the season. His eight triples are the second most in a single-season in program history, only trailing Aaron Merhoff's nine in 1998. For the second time in three games, the Bulldogs matched the program record with three triples in a single-game.
Kash Durkin drove him in with an RBI single and an RBI double from Brayden Sprencel (Robstown/Calallen) scored Durkin. Adam Peavy scored on a passed ball before a Tyler Helpenstill RBI single and an RBI triple from Mason Goudeau added two more runs to the Bulldogs tally. Chance Greene (Round Rock/Stony Point) added to his weekend RBI total by driving in Goudeau on a Schreiner error. Greene scored the final run on Schreiner's fifth error of the game.
The Bulldogs - a team picked to finish in a tie for fourth in the SCAC preseason poll - conclude the 2025 season with a 24-15 record, going 17-13 in the SCAC to finish in a tie for fourth place in the conference in the regular season. Texas Lutheran will graduate eight seniors: R.J. Carrillo (Alice/Alice), Jeremy Kennard (Frisco/Frisco Lone Star), Trevor Cones (Stagecoach/Tomball), Garrett James (Fort Bragg, CA/Fort Bragg), Diego Vinton (Richmond/George Ranch), Nolan McInvale, Chance Greene, and Ty Winkenwerder (Shiner/Shiner) We thank them for all of their contributions to the Texas Lutheran baseball program - leaving the program as 2023 SCAC Regular Season Champions.
