SEGUIN, Texas -- The No. 6 ranked Texas Lutheran softball team opened its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) series against Dallas by sweeping its Thursday doubleheader, beating the Crusaders 5-2 and 13-0 at Ed Kruse Stadium, extending its winning streak to 17 games while improving to 33-1 on the season.
With the wins, Texas Lutheran won their 74th straight SCAC conference series, dating back to joining the conference in 2014.
In game one, Texas Lutheran (33-1, 25-1 SCAC) saw senior Amanda White (Lockhart/Lockhart) strike out nine batters and limit Dallas (9-30, 5-24 SCAC) to five hits. White spun a complete-game gem to earn her 17th win of 2025 striking out nine across seven innings of two run ball. The right-hander scattered five hits and two walks, allowing two unearned runs in the seventh. The win marks White's 38th career win, tying Amanda Lochte (2014-17) for seventh all-time.
Caelee Clark (Montgomery/Lake Creek) led off the first with a single, opening a two-run Bulldogs frame. After a Clark stolen base, Annie Kay (Sinton/Sinton) reached on a bunt single, putting runners on the corners. Kay stole second ahead of a Serena Gonzalez (Corpus Christi/Foy H. Moody) sacrifice fly. An RBI groundout from Faith Hernandez (Dinuba, CA/Dinuba) pushed across the Bulldogs final run of the inning.
An RBI single from Tavery Ortiz (Texas City/Texas City) in the third extended the TLU lead to 3-0.
An RBI groundout from Kay and an RBI single from Gonzalez in the sixth made the game 5-0.
White posted scoreless frames until the Crusaders scored two runs on two hits and a TLU error in the seventh.
Clark and Hernandez each provided two-hit efforts to lead the Bulldog lineup while Gonzalez had a team-high two RBI.
In game two, the Texas Lutheran lineup struck early - including an 11-run second inning - in a rout of the Crusaders to clinch the series.
A sacrifice fly from Faith Hernandez got the scoring started in the first before the Bulldogs broke the game open in the second inning.
TLU added 11 runs in the second inning, starting with an RBI double from Bella Rodriguez (Pearland/Pearland). After a walk to Linzee Leal (Corpus Christi/Mary Carroll) to load the bases, Caelee Clark drew a bases loaded walk and Annie Kay was hit by a pitch to add two more runs. A Serena Gonzalez sacrifice fly made for the first out of the inning before Faith Hernandez kept the TLU offense going with a two-RBI single to extend the lead to 7-0. Chesley Swisher (Cypress/Bridgeland) followed with an RBI single of her own and Harleigh Russell (Fort Worth/Boswell) followed with an RBI groundout. Jordyn Joy (Kerrville/Tivy) reached on an error, allowing Russell to go second to home, tacking on yet another run. The inning ended with an RBI single from Caelee Clark and an RBI double from Annie Kay.
Missy Muras (La Grange/La Grange) reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Annie Kay to score her third run and the final run of the game.
Ainsley Davis (Rockwall/Jesuit (OR)) didn't need much help as she stymied the Crusaders over five innings of work. In her seventh win of the season, she allowed just two hits and two walks as Dallas managed just one ball that left the infield. Davis lowered her ERA to a SCAC-leading 0.72 on the season.
Annie Kay finished 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored, two stolen bases, and a pair of RBI while Clark reached three times with two singles and a walk, adding an RBI and a run scored. Faith Hernandez drove in a team-high three runs in game two.
The series finale is scheduled for 12 PM on Friday, April 18, with the game being broadcast on TLU+. Following Friday's game, Texas Lutheran will honor its 13-player senior class in postgame Senior Day festivities. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
