SEGUIN, Texas -- No. 14 Texas Lutheran finished the three-game sweep of Concordia (TX) with a 3-2 and 4-0 victories in Saturday's doubleheader at Ed Kruse Stadium.
In game one, Texas Lutheran rallied to beat Concordia, 3-2, behind a game-tying RBI single from Annie Kay (Sinton/Sinton) and a Mia Landry (Cypress/Bridgeland) walk-off single.
After Texas Lutheran left a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the first, Concordia went up in the second inning via an RBI single.
TLU responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning as a one-out single from Tavery Ortiz (Texas City/Texas City) set the table for Harleigh Russell (Fort Worth/Boswell) who drove in Ortiz with an RBI single.
A scoreless third and fourth inning ensued before the Tornados plated their second run of the game on an RBI groundout in the fifth inning. Following a leadoff single from Taylor Vannett (Kingwood/Kingwood) and a Concordia error, Annie Kay tied the game 2-all with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning. The two teams remained tied heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Caelee Clark (Montgomery/Lake Creek) led off the inning with a walk and a stolen base before a bunt single from Annie Kay placed runners at first and third for Mia Landry. Kay stole second to place two runners in scoring position before Landry lined a shot to the center field wall to score Clark in walk-off fashion.
Landry paced TLU with a 2-for-2 day with an RBI, while Kay went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases. Tavery Ortiz went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Five Bulldogs registered a hit in the contest.
In the circle, super senior Amanda White (Lockhart/Lockhart) pitched a complete game to earn the win, surrendering two unearned runs on five hits to pair with five strikeouts and four walks.
Starting pitcher Katelyn Howard (Waller/Hempstead) dominated in the series finale, pitching 5.2 scoreless innings to improve to 3-0 on the season. Amanda White entered in the sixth and earned the save, her first of the year.
After two scoreless innings, the Bulldogs (7-0, 3-0 SCAC) got on the board in the third inning with an RBI single from Caelee Clark. Two unearned runs in the fifth extended the Bulldogs lead to 3-0. A two-out triple from Harleigh Russell plated the final run of the game in the sixth.
Concordia (TX) (0-5, 0-3 SCAC) had its best scoring chance in the sixth inning but would leave the bases loaded.
Harleigh Russell finished 3-for-3 with the RBI triple and a run scored, while Caelee Clark finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
With the sweep, TLU secured its 66th consecutive SCAC series victory dating back to joining the conference in 2014.
